*Aww* *gush* _soo_ cute. Thank you!

And what does a leather jacket with a polished steel kidney belt look like? Google failed me.

Thank you! So very much!

I thought Hermione and Harry deserved a less angsty outing. They seem to be enjoying themselves.

And what does a leather jacket with a polished steel kidney belt look like? Google failed me.And here I'm wondering if I failed on research, which is sort of funny cos I spent way too long trying to work out if the state of scientific opinion regarding the split between hominids and chimpanzees was radically different in 1994, which seems silly cos I was taking an intro to physical anthropology class in the last part of 1993 and I feel as if I should remember more definitively ( ... )

Maybe they have a different official name?

Or they're just rare and not cool enough for google to pop them up easily.

It found some with kidney protection, but nothing vintage-looking, much less polished.

Could be either possibility,

I'll think about changing it--I'm sure there's plenty of jacket-mounted metalwork Dobby could polish and/or chrome-plate to his heart's content. ;-) Thanks so much!

The one I remember seeing looked pretty bright, but I'm starting to think maybe this was some sort of weird one-off jacket. In any case, I reckon Dobby would polish anything that could be polished, even if it were something nobody else would ever think of polishing, just because he's like that. If he wore shoes they'd be spit-shined Doc Martens or jump boots, and the only reason he doesn't is because he doesn't need foot protection--House Elf magic is handy that way--and he sees socks as a) a symbol of his escape from the Malfoys and b) really cool and stylish.

Sweet.

(The pirates of the caribbean scenario should be explored, though :)

Well, I'd been seeing this as a oneshot, but maybe Dobby and Winky will come up with something like that for Harry and Hermione and the study group as a way of destressing after OWLs or NEWTs. :-)

I wonder if the Wizarding version of the Silmarillion reads better than the Muggle version--to my everlasting shame, I've only ever made it halfway through.

I like the insight in the following:
Maybe it's because on some level Harry and I have been dating since First Year?

If one really does ship Harry/Hermione, then that's very much a truism (made even more obvious by the fabulous scene at the end of the movie of Half-Blood Prince where Ron sits and watches Harry and Hermione plan their future together).

"like a tiny cute blonde ninja." Perfect impression of Luna.

And while you only mentioned that Hermione becomes Hermione Potter, I'm assuming that, since everyone really wanted it, there was also a Millicent, Luna, Susan and Ginny Potter too. I can't imagine any of them managing to find someone they could love as much as they were growing to love Harry. And with both Harry and Hermione desiring happiness for the girls too, well then. . .

It might. I have to admit I don't think I made it more than a third of the way through, myself.

Thanks! And I'd forgot about that scene in the HBP movie.

Thanks! I suspect I'm not the first person to use a Luna-ninja comparison, but I reckon it's the sort of thing anybody at Hogwarts who's had exposure to ninja movies would say or think.

The girls were all at least halfway in love with Harry just by virtue of seeing him through Hermione's eyes

Great insight--hadn't thought of that concept. But it's definitely true. Amazing how many girls come out of the woodwork to show interest in a guy once he's got a girlfriend, right? Not that this is in any way duplicitous in their nature--it's just that they learn more about the guy, and start to see those good points.

Yeah, the pirate ship's a been there, done that. I'd look forward to reading the sequel (not that that's a surprise).

In this case I reckon it started out long before Hermione felt any real hope of Harry being her boyfriend, sometime back in First or Second Year when she was talking to Susan and Millie, and later Luna and Ginny. (and maybe the older girls who handed down the study room to them? That's assuming it came to them that way, rather than by Madam Pince seeing girls from disparate Houses together in the Library and giving them hints about a private room they could use,)

Not that this is in any way duplicitous in their nature--it's just that they learn more about the guy, and start to see those good points.Interesting. I'd never thought of it that way before. Then again, I'm not sure if I've ever experienced that "get a girlfriend, suddenly have other girls interested" thing, exactly ( ... )
