I thought American Gods was beautiful and it pulled me in better than Neverwhere did. Things I really loved: The Fat Kid (Internet), all of the dialogue - and the different "voices", the use of American monuments as holy lands, risen-from-the-dead Laura, all of the fictional-historical tales of Gods from other countries. I thought it was a really well-put together book and had I been reading it instead of listening to it, I wouldn't have been able to put it down. I listened to it at work obsessively though. And Gaiman's prose was beautiful throughout the whole thing. I downloaded Stardust and will probably listen to it next week.
As for Don Quixote, I abandoned him a few scenes after the famous windmills scene. I just couldn't handle his idiocy any longer.
Thanks for the response! I don't know why it took my so long to comment but I just saw this tab had been open for days! (I usually keep dozens of tabs open at once, but lose track of things)

I really liked Neverwhere and Stardust and Coraline but AG left me flat (awesome idea but just never came together in a satisfying way for me).
Is Don Quixote getting better? I had to read that for some class way back when, but only the English translation.
