Apparently, I have more to say about Kathleen Hale than I originally thought

Even though I tweet-ranted a bunch, I'm still all full of outrage!

So marikology sent me this article: Am I being Catfished? An author confronts her number one online critic. And I just shook my head at the crazy, hoped (should I ever, you know, finish and publish) I don't do what that author did and was ready to move on when I felt bothered by the author ( Read more... )

wank, bitching, thank you internet, books, writing, ranting

The worst part is her book sales have gone up. I mean, it's probably people prepared to hateread, but still... Grr!

This thing really did take the internet by storm last week. I'm still shocked neither Hale nor The Guardian has made any kind of actual apology.

Urgh I could not believe the gall of the author to attempt to pass it off as teehee I got a little bit carried away didn't I, while describing herself as harassing the blooger at work, not to mention peering inside her windows and jumping when the police pass by. Deranged is the word the comes to mind I'm afraid!

ETA And I agree that it sounded like the blogger did nothing wrong at all. It was the author who decided that one person must have been influencing all of the other negative reviews, but people simply saying that they can see where the blogger is coming from and they agree with her, is hardly an organised campaign. It seems like the authors own ego led her to becoming fixated with one person being to blame for any negative attention that her book received. (I read elsewhere that the person she attacked on twitter after ~a few glasses of wine~ wasn't even the original blogger, it was someone who gave her book a *three star* review, she just immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was her nemesis out to get her again ( ... )

She actually did this before as a teen by stalking someone and throwing peroxide on them.

Ugh. I read that one, too. And she does the same thing there - presents the events in this "aren't we all like this?" way. No, Hale. It's just you. Please stop acting like your actions are understandable in any way.

Also you around?

It is worse out there. Not in this case, but someone actually flew from London England to Scotland to attack a woman at work, hit her in the head with a wine bottle, send her to the hospital, and this was all because of a goodreads review she wrote.

Dear God.

Man, I saw the pictures of that woman's head and almost lost my dinner.

I think what bothers me most of all is the "aren't I silly?" tone of her piece, as if none of this was a big deal. Creep!

This reminds me so much of Michelle Borth's attacking and cursing out fans on Twitter--if you look at her timeline you can see her attacking fans but there doesn't seem to be any evidence of the alleged haters sending her nasty tweet yet if you ask Borth and her stands, they'll claim she's been bombarded with hate.

This Hale person reminds me so much of Borth--she's using her minimum amount of power to try and bully someone whose only offense is that she doesn't like Hale's book.

I like that more and more people are looking at Hale with growing horror--thanks God.

Ooh, I heard about Borth on wank report, though I don't watch h50. I think the worst part, for fans of that show, is that they're going to feel almost unable to watch episodes she was in without being torn out of the story by always thinking of what she did. Sometimes I think TV stars should not be allowed on twitter.

And agreed. It gives me faith in humanity to see Hale receive all the backlash she so richly deserves.
