Title: "Regional strips 03: Molise's fight"
Author: J.J.
Warning: I might have failed in portraying correctly the regions involved. If that's the case just tell me. Those were done out of love for the Italian regions, not with the intent to offend someone.
Notes: After drawing the characterization for the Italian regions I ended up having ideas for them and drawing LOT of strips about them so... here there's one. It's nowhere near to the APH standards but well, I'm not Himaruya-san...
Characters: Molise (Gilda Vargas), South Italy Romano (Lovino Vargas), Abruzzo (Gabriele Vargas), Puglia (Nicola Vargas), Campania (Antonio Vargas), Lunezia (Alessia Vargas) & Salento (Salvatora Vargas).
Time: 1947 & 1963.
Disclaimer: "Axis Powers Hetalia" belongs to Himaruya Hidekaz.
Hey, do I own something here? Oh yes, I own the plot and a sensible heart which would surely break if you give me harsh reviews... so please be honest but nice ok? Oh and the representation of the Italian regions are mine as well
Summary: How Molise became a region.

What inspired this

Italian regions had birth in 20th December 1947 (though they became operative in 1970). Molise's status was long discussed. To be honest, it was considered to let Molise be a region, but people also thought to have it inglobated into one of Molise's neighbouring regions, Abruzzo, Campania and Puglia.
In the end, when the final decision was made, it was decided Molise and Abruzzo would form a single region (according to the various sources called 'Abruzzi e Molise', 'Abruzzo-Molise', 'Abruzzi-Molise' or 'Abruzzi').
However in 1963 Molise managed to become its own region.
Molise it's the only region that managed to obtain to become its own region after 1947, although others tried.
To be historically accurate however Molise obtained her region status thanks to a petition signed by the majority of people from Molise and Abruzzo so, in truth, Abruzzo knew Molise wanted to live on her own and allowed this.

Salento was supposed to become a region as well, though in the final draft she became part of Puglia.
Lunezia also was supposed to become a region (first with the name of Emilia Lunense then of Emilia Appenninica), though in the final draft her land was split between Liguria, Emilia-Romagna & Toscana (and Lunezia would like to claim part of it ended in Lombardia too...).
After losing their chance to become regions in 1947, both Salento and Lunezia tried again to live on their own but so far they hadn't managed to do it.

Molise's proverb of the day

Addò sputa ru popele, ce nasce na fonte.
Dove sputa il popolo, nasce una fonte.
Where the people spit, a spring is born.

Cantori popolari - 'U Battellucce

Honestly I wanted to present you 'Molise', a song sung by Fred Buscaglione and that talks about Molise (he's a Molisano) but I couldn't find it so I'll present you with 'U Battellucce, an old folk song in Molisano that can be considered the hymn of Termoli (or so I've been said), sung by Molisano singers in Molisano language.
