I understand that the popular media view of anorexia can make it seem stupid, shallow and pathetic, and all about sex and competition but it really, really isn't. It's a life-threatening illness.
proanorexia is full of wanarexics (people who treat anorexia like a diet or a lifestyle choice), as are so many of the dumbass, Paris Hilton-worshipping 'pro-ana' comms on LJ. For real, non-biased, non-idiot information, ed_ucate is the way to go.
I'm not having a go at you, please don't think that. But whenever I see stuff like this, I try to point people in the direction of educated sources of information. :)
The "wanorexics" are the one's i'm mocking, dearie. It's not that it's a shallow illness any more than depression is. It's like clinical depression: there are people who have a serious problem with depresion, and then there's little twerps that play it up and shit (emo twerps) and make it very difficult for those of us who do have or may have actual depression. Similarly, there are people who struggle with anorexia for a variety of reasons, and people who have glamorized it.
I think it's very easy for the line between real suffering and faked attention-seeking to become blurred, especially in the case of eating disorders, which so often seem to be linked to celebrities and fashion trends and thereby leave many with the impression that it's all shallow and self-serving.
Glad to see we're singing from the same hymn sheet. :)
My ribs show.....only because I can't gain over 109pounds thanks to my cronic gastroitis(sp?) But I don't look THAT bad. I'm only 5'1(and a half) and 102pounds,

I don't hate anorexics. I hate how they've glamorized their disease.
