Two Girls.

Apr 22, 2005 01:34

Saw a girl on the street: pink barettes in raven-black hair, jeans-skirt, black with white-strip socks to just under her knees, black Converse. Saw a girl on the bus: neon-red hair in braided pigtails, green-blue plaid skirt, black tights, legs crossed high, red Converse. Me and the Converse girls these days. Never had a huge thing for ( Read more... )

Simply put, Converse are cute and they are comfortable. I went through about eight pairs from junior high through college, and I wasn't anything like what you describe.

"Yeah, that's why I used the word 'typically' and warned of my stereotyping. You wear them because they're cute and comfortable, so I would imagine you, too, might be a little irked when they become the official uniform of certain cliques and social constructs. Wouldn't you? I would. Perhaps that's just simply my peeve. Such as: I have worn indoor soccer shoes for over ten years because at one point I was playing indoor soccer and, like you and Converse, I found them comfortable and I liked the look. I used to be the only one I saw who would be wearing them--but that is no longer the case. Furthermore, if suddenly, a bunch of frats decided they'd all wear indoor soccer shoes, I would be mad as hell. Really that's all I'm swinging at here."

i didn't mean to come off as rude, i hope i didn't. :1

it's not really bothersome, i don't think. it's just shoes. i mean, my dad used to wear chucks when he played ball in high school, he's anything but scene. ;)

ian ian ian...can i ask you something?....do you like ANYTHING? seems like you never really have anything positive to say about society...albiet there are a lot of things wrong with it...but man, oh man...you're probably the most judgemental person i know. And I agree with you on a lot of stuff, but rarely do so much verbal bashing as you. yikes

p.s. i like converse

Haha, I do hate things, don't I? In fact, you've called me on it before, as well. All right, well, I promise you here that my next entry will be purely happy and positive. =)

"p.s. i like converse"

Yeah, I suppose, in the end, I like them, too. I just get furious with the whole manner in which they have become the uniform of certain cliques and types of people. And maybe not furious, but irritated. I launched into that subject a tad in my other response above.

getting mad with how certain things become 'the uniform of cliques'...isn't that pretty much saying you hate everything? I mean in a nutshell, you can label anything to certain cliques. I'll take my disdain for the greek system as an example...because i know it's something we both agree on...and it's the one thing i could go on and on about. For instance, those frilly short little skirts the sorostitutes wear. they're quite popular in the greek community...but not JUST the greek community; they've become the 'cool' thing to wear in the general pop culture. And coming from your other comments regarding Converse here, you can see how not-so-cliquey they are. so my question is, why did you choose to single out Converse? If anything can be thought of as connecting cliques, then what does it matter? And why do you care? Are you subconsciously jealous? Do you have Converse, and see people wearing them that you think shouldn't, or do not want to associate yourself with them, but feel you automatically do because of what shoes you're wearing ( ... )

I think I have everyone a little confused. I read my post over and it is, indeed, a little misleading. This really isn't about shoes. Shoes got me started, but I'm hardly mad about the actual Converse shoes, if that makes any sense. The whole 'culture of cool' and rant about 'spoon-fed societial conformity' referred to those who would make a uniform out of Converse, not everyone that chooses to wear them. I should have separated the concepts or made that a little more clear.

As far as ranting: yes, perhaps I do it a tad more than I should but, hey, I can always pull out the old, "It's my journal" card, you know? It really is nice that you read what I write and, honestly, I don't want to alienate everyone in a take-it-or-leave-it fashion, so I glad to have gotten your suggestion to lighten up a little. It's just so much more fun to take an aggressive stance on a volatile issue. Besides, I mean, look at this: there are how many comments for this post? Twelve already. And how many for my nice post? One. And really, that's ( ... )

You know, Matt wears converse and he listens to death metal and dresses like a preppy. Our outsides do not always indicate our insides.

Hehe, I bought a pair of Converse shoes back in the Philippines and I brought them here to wear. I didn't know that they're so popular though. I just bought them 'coz I thought they looked cute. =)

Yes, they have gotten popular here. But, really, don't mind me: I think everyone's been misunderstanding me from the start. I don't hate Converse, I just hate that specific cliques have adopted them as their uniform. I'm sure they look absolutely adorable on you. I wanna see a picture of you in them. =)
