So, the event I attended last week was not a success and Dad decided to terminate the contract with said herbs supplier who tried to impress us. The gladiolus is the birth flower of August if you buy into the birth stone, birth flower, etc thing. It also means remembrance, so it would be a sign you're thinking of her. And some baby's breath might be a nice touch just because of the name.
