WHOA CRAZY LANDLADY!

Sep 10, 2009 01:40

Little background info first: We called our landlady about a leaky ceiling 3 days ago. She never called us back. No call, no message, no nothing. Our rent is 3 days late. We are really good tenants and pay rent on time, our schedules have just been crazy cuz of school, so we didn't get to the bank yet. Now onto the story ( Read more... )

Wow! I would have probably reacted the same way, or worse. There was a time when my sister and I were in middle school and were home alone one day when someone came in through the front door. Since I was supposed to be taking care of her I immediately grabbed the nearest knife I could find and herded the two of us into the bathroom and locked the door with a phone. While my sister called I waited near the door and readied myself to attack if anyone came in through the door. My first instinct was to attack first and ask questions later. When my mom came home she told us that she had some people come by to view the house. I was so pissed off because if she had simply warned us we would have be okay with it. And that I could have done something really serious that could have been simply avoided with communication :/

Yikes! I would've been scared too if I was taking care of kids and had no idea who the person was!!!!

I'm so pissed about the landlady cuz it's so insane to me and just crosses so many boundaries and for her to act like we were in the wrong.....just insane.

Bitch is lucky there are no knives in our basement! Should've walloped her over the head with my screen printing squeegee!

Isn't it necessary for landlords to request entrance into the property 24 hours ahead of time? At least that's the way it is in my apartment complex. I'm pretty sure that's illegal, not to mention downright rude to barge into someone's house without their knowledge.

That's what we thought too!! (24 hours notice) and Andy even said that to her while we were still in the basement. She said "I wanted to talk to you" and Andy said "Good. Come back in 24 hours".

This is what she wrote in her email "Yes, 24 hours is required to
look at the ceiling. At the same time, 24 hours is not required to talk
with you about rent and I thought you would be glad to let me know what the
situation was." As if we want our landlord "stopping by" whenever the hell she wants without warning after normal business hours. 7:30 at night and most people are eating dinner, or fucking, or winding down in their home after a long day, not expecting their landlord to just drop by.

Arrrg totally rude!

If she was stopping by as a friend, like "hey how you guys doing, I brought you a pie", then she would be right. But if she came over about any reason to do with the property, what she did is 100% illegal. She really needs to go over the do's and don'ts of being a landlord

And even if she was coming over as a friend, who in the hell wants their friends sneaking into their house?! Does this woman not realize how that might possibly SCARE someone?

Oh I'm sure it's a violation of at least one law and the lease terms. All we looked up so far was how far in advance a landlord has to notify the tenant they'll be entering the property. Which turns out where we live is 12 hours, not creepily sneak in through the outside basement trap door and yell "knock knock" once you're already half way through someone's basement. Passive aggressive bitch at that too! Errrrrg some people, seriously!

not only was that rude, but in my state, it's ILLEGAL to do. unless in an emergency situation, in which case, the police are suppose to let the landlord in- after repeated attempts at contacting you.
just for future knowledge, i would find out the laws of your state regarding that, in case she makes this a regular thing, or it happens w/ another landlord.

Rude and psycho! And then she acts like we were rude to her for being like what the FUCK? I'm sure she was violating either the lease or a law or possibly both. I might do some internet research so when she comes over here on saturday I can have some info printed off or be able to tell her in legal terms that she is not allowed to do that.

definitely psycho- could you imagine her as a mother-in-law?!
i think having a printed copy of the info is a fantastic idea. i did exactly that once (different situation, though.) good luck :)

I'm pretty sure it is too! We were completely SHOCKED. Dumbfounded! To be sitting in our home and have someone that we've seen in person exactly TWICE since we moved in here come walking into our house. She's stopped by TONS of times, sometimes we were home and just didn't answer the door and sometimes we were gone and she called us and left us a message saying that she had stopped by. She's done this a lot and NEVER has she asked us any time in advance if she could come by ( ... )
