It is the most common STD, unfortunately. :( And, since if people do not develope genital warts or abnormal paps, it's fairly undetectable. :(

Busy -- unfortunately, since the park started, we leave the house at 7:45, come back at 5:45 (or later if we need to get food) then go into the park at 7 or so, and come back at 10. :( Sadly, not a lot of time for lj.

GSK is also manufacturing a vaccine that's not yet out -- they're a British company, though a lot of their pharmecuticals are used in the US. So even if Merck doesn't reach France, I'm sure GSK will. ^.^ And hopefully, once GSK goes into the market, the price will come down.

If my memories are correct, Merck should get out there. My stepfatherworks for Aventis (Formerly Aventis Pasteur, briefly Merck-Connaught-Merieux [failed merger in the mid-90s], formerly Pasteur-Merieux-Connaught, formerly Connaught Laboratories), and they've both always had insane distribution networks.

Also, Merck's website shows they have five different offices in France. I assume they sell there as well.

Cervical cancer has actually been a good fear of mine-I am very excited about this ^__^ Plus...a vaccine for a cancer? Who knows what this could lead to!

I know -- with my mother being an OB-GYN, and me working in her office, we see so many sad cases of young girls with CIN II or CIN III -- precancer and actual cancer. :( It's so sad -- and if this can be eliminated . . . ! Though, it's important to remember that it covers the most common causes of cervical cancer -- Strains 16 and 18, I think -- but rarely have other strains been proven to cause cervical cancer. So paps are still a good idea. ^.^ Still. . . .!

My mother's really disappointed that they didn't approve it for men. But hopefully that's only a delay of a few years -- they're already doing the testing to get it approved for me!

:( I know -- we were hoping they'd extend it to 30. I know that our PA (who turned 26 in Dec) is planning on getting it as soon as it comes out. :( Unforutnately, if they haven't tested it in older women, then it's not regarded as safe. . . :(
