Have them run the wet-prep or liquid pap smear, and demand HPV reflex be run. (That can be marked on your specimen.) Most insurances will not cover the HPV reflex on women who have never had an abnormal; on the other hand, if you have HPV, there's no way your insurance will even think about covering the vaccine. (And in our experience, the HPV reflex costs about $80-$120 ( ... )

Women, please please please inquire at your OB-GYN's office about this vaccine! Especially if you've never had heterosexual intercourse -- HPV is transmitted with incredible ease! 0.0 Wa? That's.... freaky. *looks up HPV* Ah yes, my friend and I were talking about that a few days ago. So basically lesbian-virgins are on the top list of getting this?

I'll be 25 in August so I'll have til next year to save up the money for this vaccine. ^^

*reads article after posting* Um... STD. No sex with a guy means I'm pretty safe, right? My friend said this virus is airborne and so women can get it even w/o sex. *snort* I thought vaccines were transmitted by s-e-x? So if two women, who have never done it with a guy - they're pretty safe too, right?

I went and checked with my mother about this. Lesbians can and do pass HPV to each other. It's not known how it happens, but as long as the virus stays moist and at room tempurature it can be passed. It's not quite as easy, but it's still fairly easy. HPV transmits with extreme ease. The only way you'd know you're entirely safe is if you've only ever slept with each other -- plus, that's not factoring in the fact that 1 out of 3 women are raped during their lifetime. It's a depressing fact, but. . . You also have to realize that HPV is also the virus that causes warts. While most of the warts you see on your fingers are not the same strains that cause cervical cancer, a few can be -- especially for people who frequently touch areas that might be infected with genital HPV.

In other words, no one is entirely safe, which is why Ruka and I both will be getting the vaccine.

But no, it can't be transmitted through the air. o_O

Even though I am transexual and not hetero sexually active, I'm still going to look into this. Though... I wonder if it'd be worth it if I'll be pullin out the uterus in some odd amount of years? (Like.. 3 maybe?)

I don't know... what do you guys think?

"Most people who have a genital HPV infection do not know they are infected. The virus lives in the skin or mucous membranes and usually causes no symptoms. Some people get visible genital warts, or have pre-cancerous changes in the cervix, vulva, anus, or penis. Very rarely, HPV infection results in anal or genital cancers."

They mention ass. I should look into it D:

*nods* They wanted the vaccine approved for men, too, but didn't get the approval. And, my mother pointed out that even after your surgery, you'll still have vaginal tissue. You can't change the nature of the tissue, just it's appearance. So, if you want to be safe. . .

XD Well, the reason their target group is 11-12 year olds is because they're reasonably sure most 11-12 year olds are not sexually active. :P But it's definitely wise to get, if you're sure you don't have HPV!
