Raise your Goblet of Rock!

The short and spoiler-free version of my reaction to the GoF movie goes like this: I would have expected the film version of GoF to be the worst, given the amount of material they had to cover and the emotional depth of said material. But to my surprise and delight, it was the best of the four. It even made me cry - not only on the first viewing ( Read more... )

Yes. To everything. THIS is the review that should be published out there. Much more thorough than B Bennett's boyfriend.

I'm glad you found Arthur hot too. Even if he didn't kick Lucius's ASS.

I agree with a lot of this but most of the negative things didn't bother me. But I thought the end of the Yule Brawl (which my GoF also opens to) lost its impact in trying to make us pity Hermione. I don't think the moviemakers really Got the Point.

What did Movie!Dean do to earn the dreadful sentence of being forbidden the affections of the lovely Miss Weasley?

I agree that when Hermione told Harry to get to bed too (wha?), and then flopped down and started yanking the giant purple shoes off (wha wha?), it was weird. But up to that point, I did like the ball quite a bit.

Movie Dean... Movie Dean. I don't know, man. Ever since he said "Neville's got a Rem EM Brall!" in the first movie, I've found him to be mockworthy. Isn't that awful? He's just a kid, and I'm totally going to hell. But somehow, the way he says his lines drives me nuts. In this one, it was something like, "What's an Aur-Ror?" Something about his delivery makes him seem a little dimwitted for Ginny's tastes. But then, maybe it's a Weasley tradition to date a dimwit first, followed by a total rockstar. :)

The filler seemed to be less in this movie, and they didn't string nearly as much of it together as in the past. Here, there were moments, but it was never "8.7 minutes of filler here, and then back to the story" like I always felt about the earlier movies.

I am probably a bit more generous towards Fleur, as 1.) casting an ethereally beautiful, more-than-human female character is not that easy as was evidenced by LotR (which had plenty of unfounded backlash) and 2.) Clemence is about the only legal eye candy for me.

Also, I shudder to think what certain "fans" will do with the Moaning Myrtle scene when it comes out on DVD.

In other news, my left forearm is looking awfully lonely. I think I should get a tattoo. :)

"Snape. I should complain about the way he smacks Harry and Ron around, because it's not entirely in character - but I don't care. When Rickman snaps his sleeve-ends in prep for another round of abuse, I cry with laughter."

This was my favorte part of the whole damn movie. Alan is priceless.

I pretty much agree with everything else.
