8.14 - 'It's Been A Hell Of A Ride' (The Vampire Diaries)

Feb 27, 2017 23:50

This took a few days longer because (a) I was sooo sick last week (the flu *and* two ear infections-fear not, I am on the mend now, yay! antibiotics!) and (b) well, this is a loooong post (a wee bit over 9,000 words, the third longest TVD post so far!) so, yeah, it took a bit of time. Hope you enjoy!

Almost. )

Heh...yeah, this episode was nearly flawless. As for that one bit that irked you, some people - I'm not even making this up - actually think that Damon didn't get knocked back into his body, that he's dead and now in Bonnie's psychic realm. I mean...how dense can they get? There's no way Stefan would've been able to see him or hear him, let alone hug him! I swear, some people are just determined to believe the worst of this show, that we won't get to see Damon and Elena have their human life together.

Such a GREAT episode. Loved it so much.

Oy vey! How anyone could miss that Damon is "alive" again is BEYOND me. Well, no really, it's not. Some parts of fandom never fail to annoy and/or amuse me with their stupidity.

Well, I won't dwell on them. I forgot to mention it, but the Stefan/Caroline reconciliation and second proposal was such a beautiful scene - it nearly moved me to tears. :) After last episode, I wasn't sure how they could fix things. Then I saw this scene and thought, "Oh. Duh. That's how."

As you know, I was even wondering last episode if Stefan and Caroline were going to be endgame... so not just you. But, yup, they answered where they stood with these two as clear as could be. I agree, it was just so beautiful. :)

Ugh, Livejournal sucks. It didn't have me logged in when I posted that comment.

Agree. Great episode, I just loved it. And Katherine returning (being introduced as worse than the devil :) )? I loved, loved, loved that twist sooo much. It's a nice circle back to s1 were she first appeared as the big bad (at least in the second half of s1). I would have loved her to get her redemption as hinted at in s5 (the dream Stefan gave her), but of course she is Katherine Pierce, she is a survivor, and she will do everything and anything to reach her goal. I was surprised at first that she would be back, but it's not just brilliant story-writing, but also absolutely what the show has been showing and telling us all along. Katherine always survives, she always has a plan a to z and men just become her little puppets when they see and instantly fall for her, because she isn't just beautiful, but also manipulative and the best of them. And the devil obviously is/was a man. So I wonder if she has been Cade's partner/loveinterest? all along whispering into his ear to send him after the Scooby-gang and the Salvatore bros in ( ... )

Yup, yup, yup. All around. I can't believe I didn't realize beforehand that OF COURSE they would bring Katherine back. It wouldn't have been right otherwise.

*sigh* Matt and human!Katherine... the couple that will never be. *double sigh*

but of course she is Katherine Pierce, she is a survivor, and she will do everything and anything to reach her goal.

Yup, yup, yup. Her mantra is "Better you than I."

This would also mean though that Caroline will stay being a vampire(unless the writers come up with another twist/cure/whatever that is - which they totally could, after all this is TVD we're talkingabout here). So I've never been a hardcore Klaroline fan, but I admit to not disliking the idea of those two back in the day and ever since Stefan turned human (and Caroline as of yet hasn't) I can't seem to shake Klaus' parting words to Caroline ´that 'he was her first love, while Klaus intended to be her last'. Now I know that Klaus was talking about Tyler here, but his statement ('I intend to be your last') still stands. So I guess maybe we could see Caroline moving over to NOLA/TO, if they ever decide to do a timejump of a couple of decades/centuries on that show. Who knows? Just my speculation.

I don't know what they're going to do with Caroline, but unless she becomes human too--and if it takes just a vial of Elena's blood, she could turn Damon and Caroline human then--I can still see The Originals rewriting the endgame of S/C and ( ... )

Great episode, great recap, only two more to go now :( Can't wait for 8x15!

I know, thank you and I KNOW!!!

Awesome episode, epic post. Thank you for the work you are putting in this. I enjoyed reading it very much.

Thank you. Yeah, I kinda knew the last batch of episodes were going to be bringing out some pretty long posts. I can't imagine how long the finale will be!

The moment Kai talked about someone who took over from Cade I also thought he was talking about himself. But Katherine being the worst of them all, that's just ... delicious.

Oh, thank goodness it just wasn't me. And, yes, utterly delicious.. and perfect!

The brother's hug and Damon looking at Bonnie reminded me of Stefan-Elena hug in "Rose", when Elena looked over his shoulder to Damon. Same camera angle.

I thought of that too... but so different in sentiment and just amazing, also... and perfect!

Please, let Enzo be dead dead and let Bonnie be happy with someone else (preferably Matt).Yes, PLEASE! The anon above you thinks that Elena will only wake with Bonnie ( ... )

“Kai is ALL black, but in his evil, little heart, his pain is real.” - That’s true. It’s awesome how TVD villains, even the most evil ones, have those shades to them. Even if the shades are highly subjective or don’t change the overall perception of them, they are still there, and they always make the characters more layered and interesting.

Exactly. I really can never say enough about how well written the characters are on this show (except alas for Jo, damnit. I don't know why they fell down so hard on the job with regards to her). The one-timers, the recurring, the supporting and leads have so much depth, are so real even amidst the supernatural chaos.

“I think the reason that I've been saying Kai is because I've never really just thought of Katherine as a villain.” - I realized the same thing!

Yeah, that just really struck me when writing this.

“I imagine if we had had a full season with Elena after waking up (or if Dobrev had stuck around with the show) that we would see more differences between the human and vampire versions ( ... )
