Yeah, I know it's been like a century. Anyone who's reading these probably thought I had forgotten or was no longer doing them. Nope, just realllly taking my time. Phew! Anyhoo, here is the next section of my Vampire Diaries eight part wrap-up series. I was originally going to just have my 20 favorite characters, but eventually decided to expand it

I find it quite easy. :)
I have no problems with Alpay or the character, but love him? Nah. I find him a bit dissatisfying too because its hard to know where he starts and ends with Silas (personality/motive-wise) - towards the end of his arc especially (it may have been because I just didn't care enough to figure it out).
>> Dangit, I just really liked Meredith
This I wholeheartedly agree with.

Of course, I'm still convinced that's because the storyline intended for him was dropped (working with Klaus to make Elena human, Shane had his reasons never fully explained, sire bond not real, etc.) because of The Originals. But overall, obviously, I was OK with his arc.
*sigh* Meredith.

Now that is a post to enjoy indeed (not that I didn't enjoy your previous posts, mind you).
Very good ranking.
Especially loved the captions - very fitting!

I'm having fun picking episode titles to fit each section/character. :)

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Meredith telling Damon HE is the good brother. Having her give Damon credit for doing the dirty work while Stefan plays vampire games was fantastic. I also have to specifically point out the word/phrase choice when Meredith explained why she called Damon the good brother: "Stefan is playing vampire with the girl who broke your heart." She put it in terms of Stefan just playing a part, pretending, and Elena not as Stefan's girl, your brother's girl, but rather in relation to Damon. Which I thought made a lot of sense because she came into their lives seeing Elena more on the Damon-side of things, so from her perspective Elena is VERY much a ( ... )

I'm so glad that you did eventually come to this point. I know that you weren't there for the longest time so I'm really happy that before the show got there itself, you were ready. Yay!
“I always understood where he was coming from, where he was going, where he had been and that was due to the writing, the care and the crafting of this character, the obvious love that went into the scripting of Damon Salvatore” - Yes, it was marvelously done. Even the moments I didn’t like always seemed to make total sense narrative-wise.
Yup, yup, yup. Exactly.
“Elena Gilbert Salvatore” - I love your use of Elena' now full name ♥
So much fun to write. :D

I honestly think that so many people were misled by the 'good brother' halo that was told (as opposed to shown) that the incredible layering and depth of this character was missed by so many because it's so much more common to see the bad boy, the anti-hero with the depth and layers. However, per usual, The Vampire Diaries, offered the very same for their 'hero' too.
"Janina Gavankar effortlessly came on-screen and owned every scene she was in from minute one until her much-too-soon final one." - My sentiments exactly. I wish she stayed a little longer or at least came back at some point. She was truly delightful to watch.God, I would have loved to see her again during the conclusion of the Other Side story and to see her somehow slip back in again when everyone else was because actually being with Silas made her realize he was so not worth it ( ... )

But my overall point is that I'm still glad he came back. I may not have loved him as much as I did; they may not have done with him what I wanted them to, but at the end of the day, I still loved the character enough that he was #12 on my list. And when he popped up on The Originals I pretty much had to rewind every one of his scenes because I barely heard anything that was going on because I spent every moment squeeing: "Alaric! Alaric! Alaric! It's my Alaric!" So I think it's safe to say I'm pretty dang happy he came back.
By the way (on a non-sarcastic note ;) I recently had a mini-revelation concerning Alaric and the infamous memory erasure. Namely, that he might have agreed to do it, because he honestly believed that was a good idea. And this is something I haven't thought about before. But here is what I'm thinking. After he became a vampire, he must have obviously remembered Isobel compelling him to ( ... )
