Chapter 6 - The Duel

The students gathered around Sho and Yamashita duking it out. Many of the students watching were either Ranveclaws or Slytherins cheering on their house mate. Sho dodged another blow coming from Yamashita, but Sho failed to see a second coming from Yamashita's low kick. Sho tripped and Yamashita was on top of him, punching Sho.

Jun watched in disbelief as more students crowd around them, watching blood spilled on the marble floors. Sho managed to shove Yamashita off him and threw punches back. They both put up a good fight, and neither one of them looked like he wanted to quit.

"Stop it!" A girl shouted at them.

But that didn't stop Yamashita from lunging at Sho again.

"Yamashita, that's enough!" Horikita Maki yelled again. "Stop fighting!"

"Sho! Stop!" Aiba jumped in.

Jun was right behind him and together with Aiba, they held Sho away from Yamashita. Sho's mouth was bleeding badly, and a dark bruise showed on the corner of his right eye. Yamashita was heaving and also had a bloody mouth plus a bleeding nose. Nino stood with the Slytherins, but he wasn't glaring at Sho like his house mates, however he had a look of concern for Yamashita. Maki came between the two boys.

"If you guys want to fight, then wait for the Dueling Club," she said, staring down hard at each of them. "Enough of this Muggle dueling."

Yamashita didn't say anything but glared at Sho. He spitted a small amount of blood from his mouth before his eyes landed on Maki. Jun watched the two stare at each other for what felt like a decade.

"Fine," Yamashita moaned and he walked away.

Finally, the students dispersed and Sho managed to calm down. Nino glanced at Jun one last time before following Yamashita. Of course, Nino would consult with Yamashita before he'll speak with Sho. Jun understood this since they were in the same house, but it irritated Jun that Nino favored Yamashita over Sho.

"Are you okay, Sakurai-san?" Maki asked, looking worried.

"I'm fine," Sho groaned, wiping the blood from his face. "I can heal something like this myself."

"M-maybe you should clean yourself up, Sho," Jun said, pulling out a spare handkerchief in his pocket.

Without a word, Sho took it and wiped his face, wincing slightly on his wound. Obviously, Sho was still angry from the fight, but Jun hoped he'd at least say thanks...

"...I'll wash this and return it to you later," Sho mumbled.

'That's good enough,' Jun fluttered inside.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Maki asked again. "We can take you to the hospital wing just to be safe."

"It's fine. It'll heal right away," Sho reassured her with an annoyed tone. "Don't try to fix everything with magic,"

Maki didn't reply.

"Sho, what happened?" Aiba finally asked. "Why were you fighting with Yamashita?"

"He hit me," Sho said, plain and simple. But that didn't fooled Aiba.

"How did it all started?" Aiba tried again.

"Sho was only talking to me," Maki spoke. "He only asked me if I wanted to join the Dueling Club this Saturday. I said yes and we started talking about random things after that."

"And then Yamashita came?" Jun guessed.

"He literally pulled Horikita aside and said 'she doesn't need to waste time on you.' "Sho sneered. "And that's when I said 'well, what makes you think she has time for you, dickhead.' And then he sa-....then he hit me."

Maki stared at Sho as if she expected Sho to say something. Sho ignored Maki's gaze and she remained quiet, but Jun saw this eye contact.

'Did something else happened?' Jun thought, suspiciously.

"Really. Is it that hard to just walk away?" Aiba sighed, as if he hasn't seen this before. Jun was surprised at Aiba's maturity.

"I shouldn't have too!" Sho defended himself. "What would you do if some random jerk tells you to get lost and pounds you in the face?"

"I'm sorry about all this, Horikita-chan," Aiba apologized for Sho.

"It's alright," Maki sighed. "I just hope nothing happens at the Dueling Club."

"I can't guarantee anything," Sho grunted. "But I will promise that I won't be the one who starts a fight."

"Thank you, Sakurai-san," Maki bowed.

"Sho is fine," Sho replied. Maki smiled.

"Okay, I'll see you at the Dueling Club...Sho," she waved and walked away.

"You were asking girls to the Dueling Club?" Jun asked, trying to hide his jealously from his voice.

"It's my only plan to beat Nino so far," Sho said, wincing as he touched his face. "What else can I do?"

"For starters, maybe not get into fights," Aiba said. "Come on, you still need an ointment for that."

Sho, Aiba, and Jun retreated back to their private spot in the library. Jun called it their VIP room. Aiba made an ointment from his earlier experiments for curing cuts and bruises. Sho insisted that he doesn't want to be fully cured, as to show a battle scar that he's tough. But this only irritated Aiba and Jun more. In the end, Sho's face was back to normal and intact, just the way Jun liked it.

For the rest of the week, everyone heard about the fight. Ohno was very disappointed in Sho as if he lost a small amount of respect for Sho. But in the end, Ohno applauded Sho for defending himself.

"He won't let someone push him around," Ohno nodded.

"I agree," Jun said. The two best friends were chatting at night in their common room. It was almost time to go for the Dueling Club, and Ohno and Jun were finishing up on any last homework assignments for Potions before going.

"But I can't help but think..." Ohno mumbled.

"What?"

"I feel like Sho isn't telling the whole truth on what happened," Ohno said, being serious.

"Why? You think Sho is lying to us?" Jun asked.

"It's just...the way he explained what happened," Ohno said. "Yamashita told Sho to back off from Horikita. Then, Sho defended himself, and then Yamashita punched him and Sho fought back. Somehow, I don't think Sho would do that."

"Why wouldn't he? You said so yourself, he won't let someone push him," Jun said, surprised at Ohno.

"Yes, but I don't think Sho would get into a fight without a reason," Ohno said, thoughtfully. "I always pictured Sho getting into a fight to defend for a cause. A purpose."

This got Jun thinking deeply too until a memory lit up in his head.

"He was about to say something," Jun mumbled.

"Hmm?"

"Aiba and I were there at the fight," Jun said. "He was about to say something. And Horikita looked at Sho, expecting him to explain, but she didn't push him. Somehow, at the fight, Sho looked really angry."

"Maybe he was bullied more by Yamashita," Ohno suggested.

"Like in Hawaii," Jun said, remembering. "When I saw him at the basketball court and ganged up, those thugs were making fun of him and calling him little boy."

"Really?"

"And that's when he yelled at them 'I'll show you what a little boy is made of' ." Jun nodded.

"That's when he used UtaMahou, right?" Ohno said.

"I think you're on to something, Ohno," Jun nodded. "Sho got into the fight in Hawaii because he wanted to prove himself to those bullies. But with Yamashita...what was the fight for?"

"Did Yamashita even insulted Sho?" Ohno dared to ask. "He said something to Sho that made him fight back."

They didn't say anything after that. There must have been something that triggered Sho.

'But what?' Jun thought.

"We should go now," Ohno said, looking at his watch. "We can confront Sho later."

Jun and Ohno headed down for the Great Hall where the Dueling Club was held. Many students were already there waiting for the professors to show up. There were more younger students than there are seniors, but this made Jun feel at ease to see faces closer to his age.

"There's Sho," Ohno spotted in the crowd.

As they got closer, they noticed that Sho was the center of attention with a bunch of girls around him. Ohno and Jun watched from afar.

"Looks like he's not having a hard time with girls after all," Ohno said, his eyebrow raised. Jun just pouted.

"Don't let him fool you," Aiba appeared at their side. "He may seem like a natural, but I know him. He's a nervous wreck inside."

Jun wanted to believe in Aiba's words, but it was hard to watch Sho surrounded by all the girls and seeing him smiling at them like it's nothing. Then, Jun spotted Nino watching Sho as well, but he too had a handful of groupies following him, plus a few guys as well.

"Here comes trouble," Ohno mumbled, and pointed at the entrance.

Yamashita walked in the Great Hall and spotted Sho immediately. To Jun's surprise, Yamashita didn't head for Sho, but instead joined with his Slyhtherin comrades. All of them eyeing on Sho with envy.

"Gather around!" Professor Miura entered. Naruse Ryo was right behind him, and so were a few fangirls of his own.

"Welcome to the Dueling Club," Professor Miura introduced. "Headmaster Johnny has ordered me and Professor Naruse to supervise over this year's Dueling Club until further notice. For those who have experience with this last year, please be patience as we instruct the newer students. Naruse."

"The Dueling Club is simple," Naruse spoke, his voice slightly louder for everyone to hear. Jun was amazed that such a soft-spoken person has that kinda power. "You all have a basic knowledge of offensive and defensive spells from Charms, Transfiguration, or Defense Against the Dark Arts. Everyone find a pair to duel with. Seniors help teach new spells to those younger."

"Professor Naruse and I will walk around and observe," Miura finished.

'That's it?' Jun thought, his eyebrow raised.

It was a lot simpler than Jun expected the club would be. He partnered with Ohno and together they practice their 'Expelliarmus' spell they learned from Charms. Jun was doing well for the meantime, but eventually Ohno disarmed Jun as well.

After a while, Jun and Ohno took a break and watched Aiba duel with another Hufflepuff, Yuya Tegoshi. Aiba was jumpy, and because of his rapid energy, he got the upper hand and disarmed Yuya without a problem. Sho was dueling with Ikuta Toma, and both were putting up a good fight since they were both very intelligent.

Another pair not too far from Sho and Toma was an unusually pairing, Akanishi Jin and Kamenashi Kazuya. Jun watched as the Gryffindor and Slytherin perform only Disarming Charms. They took turns disarming one another and peacefully handed the owner's wand back.

Jun saw Inoue Mao and Horikita Maki dueling as well, but Maki looked like she was having a harder time dueling with a smart and clever Ravenclaw. Jun watched as Mao casted a spell that send Maki stumbling back and landed on her backside. Soon afterwards, Sho appeared next to her.

"Are you okay?" Sho asked, helping Maki up on her feet.

'What is he doing?!' Jun thought, watching the suspicious closeness between them.

"I'm fine, Sakurai," Maki said, standing up on her own. But Sho still had his hand on her arm.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

"Dude, she said she's fine! Leave her alone."

Yamashita appeared next to Sho as if he saw the whole thing happened from the other side of the hall and quickly came. Sho let Maki go and turned to face Yamashita.

"How about a duel with me, Sakurai?" Yamashita said, calmly facing Sho. "Or are you scared?"

"Why should I be scared?" Sho replied, coolly. "Someone like you can't compete with me."

"Sakurai-san please," Maki whispered.

"What's going on?" Mao asked, approaching them but Jun pulled her aside.

"I think they're about to duel seriously," Jun answered.

"This is ridiculous," Maki scorned at the two boys. "Sakurai just let it go."

"Yeah, Sakurai," Yamashita challenged. "Run away like the coward you are."

Sho grunted his teeth, tightening his grip on his wand. Jun could practically see the veins on Sho's forehead.

"I'm sure your father will cover you up, as always," Yamashita rolled his eyes.

"You know nothing!" Sho yelled. A few spectators turn to see the argument, but not many bother to watch since the Hall was already filled with noises and duels everywhere. Even Professor Miura and Naruse didn't took notice.

"Sakurai Sho. The son of Sakurai Shun, Head of Magical Law Enforcement. Who doesn't know?" Yamashita smirked. "The press was all over it"

"Don't..." Sho mumbled.

"A tragic, wasn't it?" Yamashita continued. "They say it's a hopeless cause. They say she won't make it."

"Stop it!"

"I hate to think what will happen to you, Sho-kun," Yamashita smiled menacingly. "The Daily Prophet always has an section for the Sakurai family...how the son was destine to follow his father's footsteps."

"I swear, Yamashita," Sho growled, raising his wand.

"But just before he even started his year at Hogwarts, he goes ranting to the press how he hates taking after his father and wishes to rap?" Yamashita laughed, and a few Slytherins behind him. "What a stupid son! A secure future, and you'd throw it away."

"That's enough!" Sho yelled.

"Now all the pressure was on your poor sister to take over your father!" Yamashita dared to continue. "Imagine the pressure it was on her. So much she blow her freakin' head off!"

It happened in an instant. Jun didn't know who yelled first since Yamashita wip out his wand quickly.

"Incendio!"

"Aguamenti!"

"Rictusempra!"

"Protega!"

"Stupefy!"

It was the first duel Jun actually witness with such intensity. Sparks and jets of light clashed between the two boys, both trying to get the upper hand. All Jun and the others could do was watch.

"They're serious!" Mao gasped.

"Shouldn't we stop them?!" Maki pleaded.

"Not when he's like that," Aiba sighed, crossing his arms. "When Sho gets that angry, he doesn't stop until he wins."

"Expelliarmus!" Yamashita yelled.

Finally, Sho's wand flew from his hand and Yamashita caught it with ease. Sho panted hard, and so was Yamashita for putting such an effort to win. Jun bit his lip as he saw Yamashita smirking at Sho.

"What does the great Sakurai Sho has to say now?" Yamashita laughed. "Run away in your defeat? Or let his poor sister suffer in a loony house? Ha!"

That's when Jun felt it.

The burning aura surrounded Sho like an angry fire. Jun felt his heart burning again, only it was more fierce and this time...it was painful.

"What's going on?!"

"Aahhh! I'm burning!"

"Someone help!"

Everyone in the Great Hall screamed. Some managed to stand on their feet, but like many students, they were on their knees and hugging themselves to stop the flame burning them. Jun felt the sweat pouring down his forehead and tears leaked out. He saw Aiba, Nino, Maki, and Mao also sweating and their face in anguish with pain.

However, Ohno stood on his feet looking unaffected. But his eyes showed a look of fear and worry.

"It's UtaMahou," Ohno whispered.

At that moment, Jun saw Sho's eyes glow red and Yamashita eyes widen in fear.

"It's not over yet!!"

'He's singing UtaMahou! Just like in Hawaii!' Jun panicked.

"Sono toki made! Sono saki made!"
(Until that time. Until I get there)

Yamashita lefted off his feet and went soaring in the air until he landed on his back. Sho thrust his arm out and pumped his fist in, and Yamashita magically zoomed back to Sho only to be sent flying back again with Sho's voice.

It was a gruesome sight. Sho's voice slashed Yamashita to ribbons. Blood poured and splattered everywhere in the Great Hall floor. The candle lights grew in size and blazed darkly, illuminating the Hall in a dark and frightening red color. For a moment, Jun thought he saw Sho smiling...

"SHO, STOP IT!" Maki screamed, tears pouring out. "You're killing him!"

"SHO!" Ohno stepped in. "You have to stop!"

But Sho wasn't listening.

'Can he hear us?' Jun thought.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Ohno yelled.

This time, the Hall glowed a soft blue hue. Jun felt the pain evaporated from his body. Cold sweat continued to pour from his back, but he felt his heart slowed down to a calmer and more soothing beat.

Like water...

Jun glanced up and saw Ohno's eyes glow blue, overpowering Sho's intense redness. Yamashita laid still on the ground, and Sho sank to his knees. His eyes turned back to normal, but his entire body trembled. He stared down at his shaking hands, tears falling down his face.

"W-what..." Sho gasped, "w-what did I do? What h-happened to me?"

Ohno knelt down next to Sho; his eyes also turned back to normal and so did the Hall. The candlelights went out and the only source of light was the moon. Professor Miura and Naruse dashed towards Yamashita, and Maki was right behind them.

Everyone was silent at first, but then they started to murmur. A few girls had their hands over their mouth in shock. Yamashita still wasn't moving. Naruse examined Yamashita's bloody body, and then he turned his head and faced Sho. Naruse had a small dab of sweat on his face as well.

Soon, everyone stared at Sho. Nino finally spoke, his eyes look that of pure hatred.

"You killed him..." Nino growled.

"I-I didn't..." Sho mumbled.

"You killed him!" Nino cried, dashing towards Sho, but Ohno stopped Nino.

"Nino! It wasn't his fault! He-" Ohno yelled, trying to hold onto Nino, but Nino continued to cry.

"HE KILLED HIM!" Nino screamed.

Sho looked scared, and so was Jun. The cry from Nino pierced his heart. Sho stood up and dash out the door.
Nino's cries continues to echo the Hall...
