Awake! Awake! Murder and Treason!

May 31, 2009 11:08

In case you hadn't heard yet, the fetus fetishist terrorists have just murdered a 67 year old doctor as he was sitting in church. His crime was, of course, performing abortions for women who choose to or medically need to have them in a safe, clean clinic. And did I mention that this is LEGAL in the U.S.? Much as these jihadist Fundie fetus freaks ( Read more... )

I do believe that was almost word for word my reaction as well. And then a stream of invective that would make a sailor blush plus lots of stomping around and inarticulate yelling.

So the next time someone wants to email me privately and ask me how come I can't just "get over" Prop 8 and "move on?" The next time someone even -hints- to me that maybe I need to "talk about something else" and stop sounding the gong on this issue? This is why that's not gonna happen.

O_O Someone has done this?

And Dr. Tiller's murder has made me angry enough to work. Less destruction from me while my mind is preoccupied.

Yep. It wasn't meant maliciously, but it did happen. It's happening quite a bit out here, actually. The pro-Prop 8'ers are making out like we're just "sore losers" instead of y'know, justifiably pissed off disenfranchised citizens and even otherwise well meaning folks are making noises like we should be "over it" by now. One of Soren's supervisors at work asked him if he was "less angry now" or something to that effect. *roll*Like we're supposed to answer " Yes, that whole civil rights battle was like, soooo 2008. Disenfranchised is like, totally the new black."

Man between Dr. Tiller's murder, Prop 8 stupid, and the crazy guy I listened to on Friday night, I am DONE with stupid religious people. Do you know of a refuge I can stay at?

I just wish we'd start framing the debate more in proactive terms than constantly reacting to whatever crap they dish up. It seems like we're always dancing to the tune they've picked, and it's not our strong suit.
*sigh*
I feel so bad for Dr. Tiller's family. The reports I've read abut him say he was a truly noble man who saw what he was doing as the important work that it was. He was often the last hope for completely tragic and hopeless cases that other doctor's refused to touch, out of exactly the sort of fear that led to Dr. Tiller's demise. I keep thinking "What will those women do now?" Of course the answer is "Suffer. Die." But nobody will report about -that-. Nobody will mention -that- on the news, when we inevitably have to hear some fetus fetishist spokesmouth get up and prate about the evils of abortion.

It's obscene, as a woman, to be told that a fetus too small to live outside the womb is more deserving of the right to live than I am. I don't know ANYONE who thinks abortion is a Good Thing. Of course it's not! In an ideal world, no woman would be put in the position of having to continue a pregnancy she didn't consent to, choose, or want. But it's not an ideal world, and we all have to live in it and do the best we can. Sometimes, for some women, that's terminating a pregnancy that was the result of rape or incest, or a pregnancy that will threaten to take her away from her family ( ... )

Seriously. I do try not to rant on my LJ too much, but these are kinda ranty times for me. And I feel a little bad about calling someone out like this because I didn't get the feeling that they were writing me out of malice, but it was such a....sans clue....sort of response and yet, so typical of a lot of the responses I feel like I'm getting from a -lot- of otherwise well intentioned straight folks, that I just had to mention it.

And just for the record, you never have to apologize for ranting to me. ;)

I was going to go off myself- but I couldn't put it any better than you.

I feel for Dr. Tiller's family. I hope the assasin gets the full force of the law on his head. And I hope this opens some eyes.
