On Intimacy and Friendship.

Dec 05, 2005 19:08

Well, I've been thinking about intimacy, in general. Not physical intimacy, really, but intimacy in a more general sense, as in closeness to another person -- such as the intimacy between two best friends, for example, who are able to confide everything in one another ( Read more... )

"If you know someone who's desperately trying to win your friendship or your love, and you in turn don't feel the same way towards that person, doesn't it make it very, very awkward, and want to avoid him or her even more?"

A: Yes.

"On a related note, I think people who go on and on about how they're "nice guys" and such, and then after that say, "Well, maybe I should become a jerk and maybe people/girls will like me better," are not "nice" at all."

This quote sounds DISTURBINGLY similar to something someone once told me. I wonder if it isn't a coincidence.

I think that quote is just the most obvious logical conclusion, actually -- how can someone be nice if they also want to be a jerk? It's a paradox, and I think it's so obvious that I couldn't be the only one to think of it. ^^;

On a related note, I think people who go on and on about how they're "nice guys" and such, and then after that say, "Well, maybe I should become a jerk and maybe people/girls will like me better," are not "nice" at all. Think about it. If you were really a nice person, would you want to be a jerk and hurt people's feelings in the hope of getting something you want? Congratulations, you're on your way to becoming a Grade A arsehole.

This amused me greatly though some of it isn't computing correctly in my batter brain. *Yawns* Ja!

If they can actually switch from nice guys to being jerks, then they were never really nice guys anyway, they were just posers. :P

Haha, still, who knew, eh? From talking about Final Fantasy 6, to games of Command and Conquer and Worms, up to here.

Well, that's the thing -- if that's the case, I can understand why a person who goes on and on continuously about being a Nice Guy is so scorned, because people will think they are i) posers or ii) just seeking attention, especially if they don't know him that well. It's just like a politician who's constantly saying, "I'm honest! Really!" -- how many people are actually going to believe him?

You know, I remember reading that HUGE Final Fantasy 6 guide you had on the MRT, while we were on the way to Simei the first time you stayed over at my place. ^^; (Actually, on hindsight, that book seemed to have a lot of fannishness in it. Ah well. XD )
