I think you're right, he'd cut that final cord if it ever came to that. That's what makes him so great. He just lets her fly and when she comes home, he's there. He won't hold her back. He knows her well enough to know that if he ever tried, if he were that kind of man, she'd be unhappy.

I never understood the people who said that Jack wasn't good for Sam and that he treats her like crap. And trust me, I tried to see it, I tried to be very unbiased, I re-watched Stargate and STILL I had no clue what these people saw.
He's grumpy and sarcastic but, in the end, he lets his team fly. He teaches them but he never holds them back. None of them.
If she'd married Pete she never would've gone to Atlantis, she never would have even considered the Hammond. Not because she wouldn't have wanted to, but because he would have made her priorities shift ( ... )
