Can I ask you a question? Did you have any other signs of it being thrush?
I had cracking, bleeding, and terrible pain for about the first 5-6 weeks with Benjamin. I complained to the nurse at the hospital, and she essentially told me to suck it up and deal. So I did; I figured my nipples were just "toughening up" for the first time. The pain did eventually go away on its own, but your story has me wondering if there was more to it.
With Jack, it was really obvious that he had thrush in his mouth, but Ruby didn't look like she had it at all. I also felt the pain/itching going up into my milk ducts towards my armpits. But the main symptom was just the cracked nipples and the fact that they were hot pink in color.
That is such a great idea. I know that if I had had someone rooting for me back when I was trying to nurse all my kids, they would have been breastfed longer. Ashlynn had no latch, and I didn't know how to encourage it. So, I pumped for a couple weeks and then gave up. Zach was a monster eater and I ended up with thrush, so I threw in the towel at 8 weeks. And with Sebi, my perfect eater, Zach turned into a monster child and I didn't know how to feed Sebi and keep Zach out of trouble at the same time.
I often look back now that I am on LJ and see all these women who keep going for so long and wish that I could change things.
And now that I've rambled all over your comment space, LOL, I will say good luck to you! Some very lucky new mom out there is going to get an awesome mentor!
Thank you for sharing your story! I'm also happy to find out that you're going to mentor women, I know that I got a lot of help from that group. You're going to be a great mentor.
I'm fairly certain that if I didn't have LJ I wouldn't be breastfeeding now. Having the support of people here has helped so much. I think you'll be a great AAM!
