high school reunion

Last night I went to my ten-year high school reunion. I've kept in touch with a fair number of people from high school but most of them are a year older. The one other person I've kept in touch with I knew wasn't going. I enjoyed high school though, and there were enough people I hoped to see that I decided to go. Josh and I flew in to town ( Read more... )

Awesome report D! Your story about Kirstin gives me hope regarding the girls I crushed on in your grade - PG and NW. Were they there?

NW was there and looked really good (her eyebrows too). I didn't hear anything about her. Funny tidbit: She and Adam Rode (do you know him?) were both in my 4th grade class and they "went out." Adam Rode was at the reunion and looked like a bum/hippie but not for real, more like that was his style. I mean it was really amazing how bizarre he looked. I spotted them across the room talking and thought of 4th grade. It was funny, She was really nice looking and taller than him, and he was well not.

Didn't see PG

Cool beans, Wheelbarrow! Noctambulator sent me the link to this page. It reminds me a lot of how I felt last year. As soon as I walked into the reunion I felt awkward and anti-social, just like in high school. Fortunately it passed after 20 minutes or so. I also felt that the main difference in my classmates wass that they were much more self-confident and comfortable with themselves. It was nice.
I didn't notice a lot of fakery at my reunion. Do you think that means that I was the fake person? Or more likely I didn't talk to as broad a spectrum of people as you did. It fits perfectly that Princy is a dentist. What is Mike Diehl doing? Was Ben Thorton there? What about Mike Warzyki? (I know the spelling is wrong.)

hi Nick. Yes alot of my classmates were much more self confident and comfortable with themselves. Josh and I talked afterwards and his theory was that I was friends with people more on the nerdy side (its true) who tend to be less comfortable with themselves in HS but do well in college and beyond professionally and other wise. Those people appear to have done well for themselves when seen 10 years later at the reunion. Also, was this the same at your reunion-- There was a disproportionate amount of popular people represented. Perhaps because they had great HS experiences and went back to remember and reminisce the "good ol' days." Whereas people we were more friends with didn't have as good experiences and didn't go back because their lives now are so much better. Exceptions of course like me: nerdy and loved HS :)

Mike Diehl has recently graduated with 2 masters degrees (I forget what in--sounded engineery) and currently unemployed. Ben Thornton was not there and neither was Mike W.

I also noticed a lot of the "popular" crowd at the 96 reunion. A couple of them even said hi to me by name - go figure! But you're right, for most of those people HS was the highlight of their lives and the nerdy crowd stereotypically resented their social outcast nature. But as The Simpsons nerd with the black-rimmed glasses said, hanging upside down from a fence by his underwear: "This is the life I chose".

Nick you weren't awkward nor anti-social. You did, however, rock, as evidenced by your "Most Likely to Appear on MTV" award at Senior Breakfast.

Anyway IHS was awesome, good times all the way.
