My heart is racing, my throat is dry and I feel like hiding under my desk. What's caused all this? I made an appointment with a dentist

I'm apparently going to meet the new dentist this Friday, and I'm trying my best not to think about it. I've been needing *massive* amounts of work done but there was no money for so long, and of course now we're still not exactly financially secure but the problems are getting more urgent and ARGH! I so, so hope the new one really does know his stuff because an encounter with an insensitive prick, and I'm scared off again :-( The problem for me is always finding a dentist who realises phobic patients come in all sorts of varieties not just your general pain and needle phobic ... I have PTSD, and I have huge sensory and control issues but I couldn't care less about needles.
I used to be really bad about needles. I had to have lots of blood tests done when I was little and as an adult I've had several bad experiences with hard to find veins. I'm now at a point where I still don't like it, but I've learned enough relaxation techniques to deal with it. I have to admit though that the last time I went (a year ago) the dentist used progressive numbing and I didn't feel a thing from the injection.
The problem with dentists is that they want you to do things, like open wide, or bite down, or whatever, so I can't escape into my own space. That's partly why it accidentally bit the hygienist; I'd zoned out and then suddenly reacted to a very sharp pain.
I think what I hate the most though is the drilling. Although it doesn't hurt, it reverberates through every cell of my body and makes me feel very, very uncomfortable. I liked how fast the last dentist was, but considering the same tooth seems to be developing an abscess, that may not have been a good thing.
