So the last time that I spoke with my ex boyfriend was 3 months ago. The only reason that I even bring up the creep is that I got a phone call today that was from an unavailable number and when I answered there was silence on the other end of the line. Now normally I would blow this off if it hadnt been happening almost everyday for the last week

I really don't feel it is "giving in to the jerk" to change your phone number. Quite the contrary, I think you are giving in to him by listening on the phone for several minutes, waiting for him to hang up. One of my favorite phrases from my dear friend Jojo is "avoid the deliberate manufacture of misery". Sometimes this involves an avtive step, such as changing your phone number. Them you don't have to waste any more mental energy on it.
