Computer troubles.

So my parents gave me a budget of $1000 with which to go out and acquire a computer, sort of for school but obviously with plenty of flexibility to go out and get what I would want and not just the absolute bare minimum for utilitarian purposes. Well my previous laptop is pretty much toast-- I mean it might be saved by installing a new harddrive

One of my major concerns is simply weight vs. usability, since I intend to want to be able to take it to class to type notes... But am concerned about other applications if a laptop was all I had... Atm I'm looking at the Dell Inspiron 14R as the closest match.
