Events went on as planned but slightly tweaked. The guest speaker they had changed his topics and really just took care of the kids. Listened to them. Let them vent and get out their feelings.
The band they had for the concert went on as planned. The off campus event playing laser tag, go carts, arcade, etc. went on as planned.
It put a somber mood on everything Friday night but I think these kids...being 6th--8th graders were able to really move on. The high school kids that have been in this guy's youth group most of their teenage years are the ones that are having a really hard time with it.
I think the church community is pulling together well but the overall community will not. This will be a chance for others to point fingers and ridicule the church. We are already hearing some say they won't allow their kids to come to anything Westwood is having again.
Our pastor is amazing and he reminds us that he isn't perfect either and he has the ability to disappoint us too although he tries very hard not to do anything that would hurt his church or his ministry.
He definitely is a very straight from the hip tell you like it is kinda guy though and we appreciate that from him.
