I have two very extreme arguments to your entry.

1. my friend Matt met and fell in love with a girl very far away from where he lives. He has driven to see her numerous times. They did not work out. She cheated on him with her ex boyfriend and broke up with Matt to get back together with the ex. He also informed that she was very psycho.

BUT

2. I met my boyfriend Andrew online 5 years ago. We finally met in person a few months ago and everything is working out really well! We see each other like every week or every other week for a few days. It's awesome. And everything is falling into place, I'm probably going to end up marrying this boy. Seriously.

But. If you mean, don't "e-date" someone, by only IMing them, webcamming with them, myspacing them, and maybe texting and phone calls, but never spending time with them in person - I wholeheartedly agree.

i was definitely referring to the "e-date"

it really sucks when someone thinks they have fallen in love with you and never actually met you. we actually only knew each other for a month, tops.
