My personal triumph of the day: I emailed my conservative, republican  sister, and politely pointed out that Walker's bill is anti-democratic, and has sooooo many problems...and I pointed out that her State Senator, a Republican, was on the list of Republicans who *might* be on the fence, and asked her to contact him...and she DID!  She agrees that ( Read more... )

I have some friends who are teachers, school social workers, etc. I do NOT begrudge them one penny of what they earn...holy crap, what a hard job! I don't have kids, but I'm a home owner who pays property taxes...and I have never voted "no" to a school funding referendum. We ALL benefit when we have well-educated kids who are learning in a well-equipped school environment. I can't beleive there are people out there who don't get this.

Here is one thing that I am thankful to Walker for: after the 2000 election, I thought I was kind of done. I poured *so much* time, emotion, etc. into that election, then to see GW win...I gave up. While I've voted in every primary and every election since then, I've done little else. I didn't think I'd ever get worked up about politics again. Well, guess what--I'm worked up!!!

Go D.!

My mother-in-law was like, "Oh, you Madison liberals just haven't had a good protest in a while, I guess it was time for one" -- I didn't even try to get into it with her. But she thought it would only affect teachers; I corrected her on that part at least.

I didn't really expect a response, but to get such a positive one! Well, maybe she was going to contact her senator anyhow...but we had a really positive exchange about politics, which is kind of unusual for us these days (we stick to neutral topics).

Such a week, here.

I have started looking at the "WALKER contributing businesses" I won't be shopping at Kwik Trip anymore, and I already have been boycotting M&I bank for over a decade.
Wal-Mart goes back on my - "not even when you are desperate" list.

There's also a nice group on FB now, "Support Businesses that Support WI Public Employees". The reverse boycott!
