I'm thinking more that it might be possible to adopt new cats. What seemed unthinkable to me after losing Alison, the last of our beloved companions in the Spring suddenly seems more realistic.
It never gets easier, either...we had about four different cats in the course of my growing up, and each time it was tearing open a new wound, let alone an old scar. I can't wait to see Mariposa at Christmas.
We've had at least two cats in the house ever since we started having cats. Sometimes as many as five, but no less than two. I won't go into the various mechanics. but each is different and each has its own personality. We will never have less than two because sole cats are so often unhappy and lonely. If you get a new cat, we always suggest that people get two; they can keep each other company then and are so damn cute in kitty piles!
