Is that you, Jacob Marley?

Well, the Passing Out Parade went very very well, the weather was sunny and clear, everyone, especially the Boy Wonder, looked rather good in their uniforms, and they even got a fly-by.

The bad news )

NTL may not officially support LANs but there are a nontrivial number of NTL users who have them (myself and wimble among them). What is it that you're trying to do that they allegedly can't handle?

We've started having a problem when both PC's are playing Everquest, in that it seems to knock the BB connection out when either one of us either logs on or zones within game. This causes (variously) lag or disconnection. We're using Ethernet adaptors at the moment, just not sure why we suddenly started having this problem and can't seem to fix it.

Mmm. How do you have your local LAN set up? Do you have a router talking to the cable modem, or do you have the PCs sharing the connection from within Windows? I have this horrible suspicion that you're going to tell me it's the latter, about which I can say very little as it's not the connection method we use - but I can't think why you'd see the problem you describe if there was a router involved.

It is indeed the latter, and I've attempted to persuade the Boy that maybe we do need a router. He seems to think it's something to do with fixed/fluid IP addresses, but then I seem to recall it being suggested that a router would be a better option. No doubt the saga will continue, as I refuse to believe *all* UK players of EQ on NTL have exactly the same problem.
