Overheard at Garden House Cafe

This morning I walked into my local independent coffee shop. Greeting me were Jeannette Kim (the owner) and this new hire, a woman roughly my age. Jeannette makes it a point to really say hello to her patrons (i.e.: serious eye contact, a wrinkled brow of concern

It's hard to be too weirded out because it's so very cute, and I really am grateful for that dose of happiness in the morning. Sometimes it's the only line of defense separating me from a bad day!

I love little coffee places for that exact reason. And I *tried* to bring a little of that to the "Starbucks Experience" when I worked there, but man it's a completely different feeling amidst the corporate guidelines.
