Thank you for feigning interest in this most mundane of topics! I appreciate your efforts to humor me.
Boiling the walnuts did indeed work. In fact, by the time my task was nearly completed, I had mastered a technique for cracking the shells into two perfect halves. I would apply the slightest bit of pressure with the nut cracker. Then, I would slid a butter knife into the seam (where the two halves come together) and proceeded to gently nudge the shell halves apart ever so slightly until they popped apart. It worked about 80% of the time.
If you have any more questions about cracking nuts, I'd be happy to help you out. I seem to have a knack for it, but you probably already know that.

The pleasure was all mine, really.
Had it not been too late, I would suggested sawing them in half with either a jig saw or a reciprocating saw.
So, can I have all the dust and meat bits left over? I'm feeling like living on the wild side. . .
