It's amazing how comforting having a cat sleep with you can be - which is odd when you think about how much time they spend flicking tail hairs directly into your eyeball or asking when breakfast will be served by stepping on your head. (Though that might just be my experience.)
As for the size-to-heat ration, maybe it's because cats are secretly dragons who keep most of their mass hidden in another dimension? Or something even less plausible.
Ah, yes. The winter blanket-burrito/nose-snorkle maneuver. A classic.
There is a cat at the local humane society that has been there for 800+ days because it's got FIV. My instinct is to rescue it.
I think you should listen to your instincts ... including the part that says you're not quite ready yet. One day you will be, and ONLY YOU can judge when that happens. I have every faith that you can do what's best for both yourself and the lucky cat you take into your home.

Eddie demanded breakfast by licking every available surface in the room, knowing it drove me nuts. I have some antique furniture that I'd rather not get demolished by cat spit and a rough tongue.
Hmm, maybe cats are actually a living TARDIS...
I thinking getting a new cat will be a very trying experience for me. I love the thought of having a kitten and the playfulness/fun that they provide. But I also feel so sad for the older cats who've lost their homes - they deserve affection as much as any other kitten.
You'll be pleased to know that I found a new doctor and will be getting all kinds of tests done (physical completed today, blood work and breast work next week). It's lifted a weight off my shoulders. I told the doctor that I've been thinking of adopting a cat, but the whole cancer issue has stopped me. She more of less argued that there's no point to worrying about anything until the results of the mammogram and ultrasound come back (in about 2 weeks). She firmly stated that I should get a pet. Guess if Doc says it's
