i know, i know...tortured soul.

Recently, i had a rather disturbing conversation with my mother. Sitting on the floor of my "room" while working on a piece, her parked next to me attempting to reorganize my drawers, we slowly fell into the topic of art and art schools in my future. I began to ramble on about Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), or how i might possibly end up ( Read more... )

i'm at mica right now on an okay scholarship. i am going to be paying off my student loans for years and years to come. i've only been here for about a semester and a half, and it's already been entirely worth it.

no matter how many loans you have to pull, college will be the best social, learning, .. everything experience you'll have ever had in your life. trust me. i know. i'm here.

wonderful post, by the way. it's so nice to see things like this written.

oh i know, i can only imagine how great it must be..
but the idea of paying off loans for the rest of my life scares me, even though its what will most likely happen. by the way, how much of a percentage did they give you? i know that the max mica gives is some 75%. it really sucks.

Well, i understand perfectly, for i'm stuck here in Miami Dade. As a matter of fact, i've stopped taking academic courses altogether. Everything i'm taking from now on will be humanities courses and community education courses like dancing, martial arts, etc. I guess in THAT sense there's hope in Miami Dade... however, I must admit that although i'm growing artistically and as a person, i could be growing faster by getting the hell away from here... and that it DOES get lonely down here without enough artistic people to hang around (the main reason i still buzz around DASH like a fly on horseshit). My problem, as you obviously know, was a lack of a good portfolio and good grades, so i'm glad you're really working. Anyway, i really wish you the best, dear little 'Nessa, and i believe in you like i believe in green jolly ranchers.

i've always been mad at you for not taking the initiative to do more with your self. its seems as though you're enjoying yourself there at school anyway, though.

parents suck. if anything, just go. even if after all your hard work nothing happens just go. hell, you can backpack through europe on the cheep. BUT i'm sure you'll do fantastic. you'll get a scholarship and go to someplace artistic and cosmopolitain and fantastic. you'll learn and you'll have fun.

oh, and honestly getting a loan really scares me too. i'm probably not even gonna get a mortgage and buy my house in cash.
but if you must, you must, although great things are gonna happen to you vannessa, great things.

u dont have to be like ur parents at all. if u reallly want to persuade something and u want it that bad chances are ur gonna work ur ass forit. so do whatever it takes to get where you want to be because in the end its worth it.even if there is no money remember, theres always scholarships that can help with that and grants as well! so work ur ass hard for that because you deserve it! muaz
