Outdoor adventures and mistaken impressions

I am one of the advisors for my church's youth group. We have a very small group, between 2 and 4 youth, ages 12 to 14, and two adult advisors. This week, since the weather was nice, we decided to do something a little different and took our three youth geocaching in the neighbourhood. As a person who lives in a different area where drug deals occur on a daily basis in the back lane or right outside my home, I totally understand the concerns of the father. I would have explained what I was doing at the time since I would have been worried about being possibly associated with such activity or being reported to the police. I am afraid that geocaching would not have even occurred to me had I been that man.

I understand that, and I do wish that one of us had recovered from confusion/shock in time to do so, but in the moment, we thought that defensively chasing after him wouldn't have been helpful either.
