I've never understood the "LOL IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE AN OSCAR WINNER" defense. I don't think any summer movies are. Thor wasn't meant to be an Oscar winner, and that movie was still fun as hell.
My reasons for disliking this are length-related. It's even longer than ROTF and there's really no excuse for it. There are a lot of things that could've ended on the cutting room floor. If it was maybe forty/fifty minutes shorter, I'd probably be a lot kinder to it.
I... wasn't expecting an 'Oscar winner' either, but my exceedingly low expectations were still not low enough for me to enjoy this movie. There were little five second clips of 'ohshitthatwasawesome', but for me the five second clips are not enough to make the movie 'good' or even 'satisfactory'.
In a way I feel like my hatred for it makes others go 'eh it wasn't that bad', thus making their experience of it slightly better than mine, but that won't stop me from hating the film overall.
Indeed. I'm really hoping seeing it for a second time will make me hate it less, for my own health. I shouldn't get so worked up about a damn movie, but man, Michael Bay.... god damn Michael Bay...
I just wish the 'Cons would have been given more respect in their deaths, you know? It felt like such a joke, a mockery of what they should have been able to do. Shockwave in particular got outted really bad. ...And Starscream... And....
Shockwave was... a red herring. He was little more than a blunt instrument that Megatron directed; Dino & Que got more character development than him. And Starscream just went out like a punk.
Why didn't Sam get to take down Shockwave? After all, that would've been a great punctuation mark to the overly-long Skyscraper scene. Then, to give Starscream a good send-off, have him slide up to Sentinel and suggest that he would be a far more cooperative partner than Megatron, only to have Megs show up and decide 'enough is enough'... then take his shotgun and blow off Starscream's head.
Fanboys actually think RotF was better? *Facepalm!* I thought this one, despite it's faults, was better than both of the first two. I didn't expect deep plot or a lot of good character interrelations between the mechs - this is Bay after all! For him, the mechs are just an excuse for Bayhem.
I was warned that Sentinel was a jerk, but I found the betrayal... an interesting turn of events. I'm fine, though there's a little bit of disturbance amongst my toymuses because Sentinel Small has been playing nice with Omega Prime (RotF Optimus/Jetfire combined) up until now. Prime (MP OP) is not amused and is quite willing to turn Sent over to Unicron.

Thor is almost made by a completely different company who knows how to respect their own property. OR...MOST OF IT. /eyes Spider-Man 3
