For Mariko. Happy Holidays!

Trip held the box close to him. He’d spent days mulling over what to get his friends for the holidays. They didn’t celebrate Christmas on Xybria nor was there a holiday similar to it or even around the same time. Yet, when he’d come to Earth, he’d liked the idea of a day where everyone was supposed to be nice to one another and quickly adopted all of the holidays around that point. No one really commented on the fact that the clocktower was decorated for several different religions and easily went with it. The only one, Trip figured, that would have said something was Wes since he was from this century unlike the rest of them where religions were more easily accepted and he just seemed easy-going over the whole thing and took it in stride.

Katie was the first to see him and motioned for him to come sit by her, which he quickly did. She wrapped an arm around him, letting him cuddle next to her before she glanced at the box. “What’s that?”

“A present,” he answered. He felt someone sit next to him and glanced over to see Wes peering over at the box as well. “A special present.”

“Who’s it for?” Lucas asked as he stood next to Wes, glancing over. Jen joined him a second later. Trip bit his lip as he became increasingly unsure of his idea. He took a breath and gathered his courage before he opened it. Inside were five golden rings, each of them nearly identical other than a tiny jewel in the middle of it.

“All of you,” he said shyly. Each ring was handed out and looked at, even Lucas decided against saying anything mean in the spirit of the holiday. Besides, his had a blue stone in it. Trip looked at them. “Xybrians have different colors of gems. Like mine is a pale green. They reflect the personality of the person.”

Katie smiled at him. “So, you think our Ranger colors would be like our Xybrian colors?” She asked and he nodded.

“Yeah,” he answered. “Xybrians with a red jewel are more passionate about things. Those with pink are more involved with helping people. Xybrians with blue are confident and cool. And those with yellow are cheerful and happy.”

“What about green?” Katie asked, looking straight at him.

“Healing and hope,” he answered shyly. Lucas glanced at the box and then back at Trip.

“There’s one more,” he informed the younger man. Trip nodded.

“I know. I’ll take care of it later,” he answered and Katie looked concerned.

“Don’t you get one?” She asked and he shook his head.

“I don’t need one,” he answered, motioning to his jewel. Katie nodded and held on to him for a while which Trip didn’t mind in the least. She also went with him to drop off the last ring, not saying anything for a bit as they dropped it off outside of Eric’s door with a slight knock. The wrapped box and note in stark contrast to the rest of his backyard.

Katie finally looked at him when they were further away. “How come you gave one to Eric?” She asked and Trip smiled.

“Because he’s still part of the team,” he answered. “And he’s my friend.”

“He tried to kill you,” Katie reminded him.

“He’s still my friend,” Trip answered stubbornly and was shocked when Katie leaned over and gave him a quick kiss.

“You’re amazing, Trip,” she told him and he blushed. “Happy Holidays, Trip.”

“Happy Holidays, Katie!” He answered back and took her hand as they finished their way back to the clocktower.
