It's only productive if you can't see inside my head, I assure you! I feel like everytime I cross something off the list, 3 more things get added, and there's a half-dozen more I'm deliberately ignoring :)
There are definitely tradeoffs; I'm doing less reading, for example (boo!), and probably not getting as much exercise as I should. And, for some reason, it didn't consciously occur to me that doing a bunch of house projects was going to cost money (...don't ask, sometimes I'm not so bright), so that's a consideration as well.
Oh, and I'm struggling to find the balance between "just get it done already" and "don't make a hasty decision that you'll regret just to mark something off the list".
Yup, as you told me, your energy can only go to so many things :-) The list problems happen to me too. The stuff just accumulates. For me, though, it feels really good to do one or two concrete things towards each goal every time (such as the "remove items" goal, which I've sort of appropriated). It was a huge relief to throw out a bunch of stuff and take bags to Amvets on Friday. I've probably asked you this before, but have you read Julie Morgenstern? She was the first one to make me aware that removing clutter can be a psychological boost.
Concrete progress *definitely* makes a psychological difference, especially when I'm at a phase of job-work that results in zero (apparent) progress daily, just treading water.
I have read Julie Morgenstern - she resonates fairly well with me, too.
