I'll preface this by saying that I usually consider my parents to be reasonably sophisticated in terms of food. My mother's worked in food service for a fair portion of her life (in between the clinical psych, nursing, and now neuropsych), and my father ran the restaurant where I learned to cook for nearly thirty years. Errr, well, actually ,yes...
early in the morming,emptying last nights leaves,
ate a few, just for something to chew--not too bad...

Growing up having Tea (dim sum) every few days you get bored and try to eat anything.

My parents are totally mystified by the ingredients I use as well, even though my mom used to teach Home Ec and did a chapter on international food, and we lived in Thailand for nearly six months when I was younger. (But then I don't keep much Thai stuff around; more Indian, Middle Eastern, and African.) They've never tried to use any of them like that, though; indeed even when I lived with them they stayed well away from most of it.
