This seems to be the summer of having work done on the house. The projects (in various stages) include interior painting, new brick front porch and steps, landscaping with a back patio, and a major bathroom renovations, but the one to bring the biggest change to our life is adding central air conditioning to the house. Alas, there's not much more to say on that project yet. It hasn't gotten past putting it on the list of projects that we're looking to get done. Right now we're trying to get through finalizing the landscaping designs.

I understand. I had a guy come out to give me a quote on mine, but he still hasn't given me the good/bad news. :(

Yeah, part of the problem in getting started on the bathroom is just finding a company that we'd want to work with, who'd want to do the work, and who would do a good job at a price we're willing to pay. We rather lucked out with the a/c work in that regard, and fortunately got a good recommendation for the brick work.

Did you get two zones? We have that, but the downstairs one doesn't seem to be working right now -- it only makes a big difference in cooling the master bedroom, but I'm sure it would be more efficient to get that repaired.

Congrats! Keeping out the allergens is a wonderful bonus.

Yep, in fact it's basically two completely independent systems. Because of the shape and structure of the old house, it was going to be difficult to run ducts between the upper and lower level without eating into living space. We ended up with one system in the attic for the upper level and one in the basement for the lower level. While it added to the complexity and cost, I think it should be for the best in the long run. Upstairs is often hotter than downstairs, and we can also put the two areas on different schedules.

That's kind of cool. Then the house can tell you that you're staying up too late watching TV and make you go upstairs! :)

I'm looking forward to visiting with the new projects completed! It may not be so summer hot anymore but I'm sure we can hang out on the porch looking at the landscaping!

You do realize that one of the commonly held dates for the invention of modern AC is July 17th, 1902 right? Excellent timing to have your first full day coincide with that. :)
