domparts!

We're becoming official registered domestic partners in the state of Oregon today!!  It's kind of like marriage, but not really, so we're not making a huge deal.

We're celebrating by going out to a nice dinner, then getting drunk with some friends later on.  So really, only the nice dinner part differs from our usual Friday schedule.

But it's ( Read more... )

congrats on getting official registered domestic partners! Me and my wife did that too before we got married in 2008. Here in Belgium it's not seen as being a second-class citizen as lots of straight couples get registered too (mostly for tax reasons). We had the registration too before the gay marriage got approved here a few years back. I hope you can later legally marry your partner. But the official partnership registration is a first step in that direction I think. At least it was here in Belgium.
Have a great evening and a nice dinner!

Thanks! The meaning of domestic partnerships differ from state to state here. In OR, it's specifically for same-sex couples for the reason that, if you're het, why not just get married? Also, Oregon is one of quite a few states that began performing gay marriages in the early 2000s and, because of backlash, wrote a definition of marriage as between a man and a woman into the state consitution. (Same thing happened in Colorado and Hawaii, to name two) So it will take a lot (ie - a federal supreme court ruling) to have same sex marriage here. The U.S. is so f-ed up.

But we had fun on Friday!

Congratulations!....I guess.

No, really, stupid five states and one district.

But that's awesome in a you-love-eachother kind of way.

Only just got to this - oops! Congratulations! I hope that you can legally marry in Oregon soon (grrrr Oregon), if that's what you both want, but congratulations on this milestone as well :D Hope that you both had a lovely day yesterday x

Thanks! There were a couple little snags regarding a notary, so it was thisclose to not happening. And after our dinner splurge, we both passed out on the couch until going-out time. True domparts.

BUT, we had an awesome time out at the bar - SO many people showed! :)

Congrats, dude! If you aren't already, you should get involved with BRO (Basic Rights Oregon). They are trying to get gay marriage on the 2012 ballot. I've been doing a lot of crusading here on the coast, and I think that in two years, things might look very different in our state. There's already quite a bit of support from the hetero community (here, at least), which is always nice.

Also, I heard about the swastika bullshit at your campus. What the fuck is up with that? I need the skinny from an insider. The news is tainted by the time it gets to us coasties, imo.

I am super happy for you guys! Much love, buddy!
