On the list of words I don't like is the term, "trope." My main reason for not liking this word is its implicit "member status." Using the word makes you part of the technical 3lit3 in the English department. ...Everyday is a stardate. A funny convention, dating the stars... who would want to do such a thing. Why place yourself as concretely existing in a given space and time based on where stars were millions or even billions of years ago? This seems unnatural and horribly inaccurate.
