Could you get a breathing treatment at either one of those places? It could be that your asthma is out of control.

I agree. I guess I know when my cough is asthma related and cold related.

Usually if I have a cough related to a cold it's the kind of cough that causes a tickle in my throat. That kind is easy to deal with. It responds to over-the-counter cough medicine or to a small dose of codeine that I can get over the counter. This cough, though, is coming from deep in my chest, where my asthma cough comes from. So I don't know if it's caused by my cold or caused by my asthma, and if it is caused by asthma, why it's not responding to my inhaler, which is brand-new.

Depends on whether it's a dry vs. wet cough, whether it's preventing you from sleeping, and whether your asthma is under good control when you're not sick. It might mean that you need something for your asthma and it might mean that you need something for your cough ( ... )

Well, today makes it a week since the cold started. The cough is still not productive. It's still there in my chest. My asthma was not under particularly good control to begin with because my doctor refuses to send me to an asthma specialist but at the same time won't prescribe me anything different as treatment so I'm pretty much stuck.

I take it that switching to a different physician isn't really an option?

No, it is not. There are no doctors in my city taking new patients unless you are pregnant, in need of a pediatrician, or have just moved to town.
