pc laptop. cheaper, more practical. easier to service/maintain. about viruses and problems...every computer has the same chance of both. ive been using windows for 15 years and havent had a problem with it, just hardware that isnt microsofts fault(such as a bad hard drive, bad modem, etc). if you know whatre youre putting onto your computer, you should never get a virus or spyware. use firefox instead of internet explorer to avoid those.
id look into a dell laptop. they are really cheap now ($600 and less for a good one) and seem to be making good stuff. i want one :(
i think pc too. pretty much because of the reasons your dad gave. plus they are so much more expensive. and as far as the technical problems/virus deal, just take care (keep up on maintenance, virus definitions, etc.) of your computer and your computer will take care of you! :)
Nah, screw all of that, yes the mac is a little more, and has more power than you really need, it is A. much kooler, B. you don't ever really have to deal with viruses C. awsome customer support D. at first it will feel weird, but then u'll figure out it is very straight foward abd user friendly. And then you know, once you have a mac, you have to get an ipod ;) (they might also have a deal right now, where you buy both and get like $200 back)
pc, because of all the reasons the above people said. plus you can ask just about anyone of your friends that are tech savvy at all about fixing a pc if you do run into a problem, and most likely someone will come up with a solution. i consider myself damned pretty computer literate, but can barely even work with a mac. i can only think of like one person off the top of my head that knows alot about macs, but i can list like a dozen people that i would consider to have pretty advanced pc skills. just my two cents.
Having an A+ certification myself I can see the majority of people working with computers know nothing about macs and refer you to someone else.
Like a macintosh beauracracy of sorts. They may break down less often (probably not true anyway, however) but when they do its gonna be a pain in the ass to get fixed.
