[So, it's pretty obvious to Conchita that Grady would have something up his sleeve after that warning. Therefore, after the Librarian and Billy's conversation gave her an idea, she's decided to try something different with the filters. Rather than filter FROM Grady and the drones, she's decided to try filtering to specific houses only ( Read more... )

[backdated before this.]

I heard it. But...are you sure that's the smart thing to do? That guy - kid - whatever he was didn't sound very happy. Suppose he's calling Grady?

Hmhm, well.... I hate Grady. If he doesn't like it, then all the better.

What if he tries to hurt you?

Why, child, this is a brute we are speaking of. Eventually, he will aggrieve you whether you are friend or foe, passive or aggressive.

Therefore, even with that threat in mind, I believe it is best to ignore him. We wouldn't want to encourage his poor conduct!

...But still, I would prefer it if my escort were someone who could at least give him trouble if he were to come by.

[Why was she calling so many people over and over with the same thing?]

Um, if you really want to go somewhere you can use my bicycle. I bought it last week and is pretty good for getting around.

A bicycle?

[she considers.]

Are they ... easy to ride?

[they used horses in her time period...]

More or less, you have to balance a bit, but it's really easy when you're peddling.

Very well, I will take a look at it.

[peddling, though? She's skeptical - it sounds a bit unladylike. She expects him to take her to the bike.]

Have you got any idea when she'll be out, though? Or where she'll be on that highway? [Because...there's a good chance she can take the 'family' car, if she really wants to...but she doesn't see much point going on the highway just to go. Frankly, she doesn't trust it.]

Well, of course I do. She would have left rather quickly, after realizing her phone call was public. Therefore, she should be out right about now, wouldn't you agree?

[as for where on the highway, Conchita has no idea, but all roads on the highway seem to end up the same regardless...]

She could have, if she realized it was public. Or she could've called it off. Or not even cared, really. This was about defiance, not us. And what part of it's got her interested?

But she must have realized. Nobody in this silly place will ever pass up a chance to talk to the "natives." Someone telephoned back, I guarantee it.

She said she was going, and it certainly sounded like she cared to me. I suppose it could have been called off, but that could be determined easily with a call to the library. I would prefer not to waste so much time, though.

We would be pursuing the librarian.

The librarian? Who the hell's that?

Why, the woman who works in the library. She has strayed from her books, however.
