How are you doing? I'm hearing reports that the looting and violence are spreading away from NO. Please stay safe. If you can avoid it, try not to go out alone. Apparently the new passtime in NO is rape.
Frankly, I don't care about what the individual photographer has to say about his photo. He can call it whatever he wants.
But the editor at Yahoo "news" who chose to put that photo and the "looting" photo up had the power to change the captions. The problem was not with the photographer, it's with the people at Yahoo.
Further, the third photo Yahoo put up also is a bit biased, don't you think. The white girl is looking through her shopping bag -- but how the hell did she get a shopping bag to look through? There are no open stores. She's standing just outside of a convenience store that has been looted. Her activity is described as innocent, and the black male's activity is not.
My complaint is definitely with TPTB @ yahoo news. They are the only ones with final say on how the infotainment is presented at yahoo.
That is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe the bigotry in this country. I am totally floored at the response this catastrophy has rcv'd or rather not rcv'd. Where is the fedral aid? Where are the air drops of food and supplies or these people? How are they supposed to eat and survive? They have nothing left. Looting is their only means of survival, what else are they suposed to do? Find their ATM card and withdrawl cash?
Ahhh, this is so sad, so really sad and heavy on my heart.
I certainly have no problem with people looting for food -- neither do the police.
But man, if they really won't change captions, Yahoo could have selected photos with different captions, or at least a selection that as a group didn't seem so skewed.
There's so much wrong with the news coverage, it's crazy.
Have you noticed how they're always comparing the horrible situation to Africa? Not to the tsunami areas in asia, not to "third world countries" in general (not often at least, that one's used rarely), but specifically Africa.
