Some time ago, Livejournal terminated the journals of a few people for reasons I cannot recall. Anyway, some girl calls LJ's phone, gets the answering machine and starts offering LJ's founder Brad (I believe that was before LJ was taken over by Six Apart) sex in exchange for undoing the suspension of these journals.
Why? Because her friendslist had gone down to less than 100 because of the suspensions. Quote: "You're seriously hindering my attempts at becoming popular on the internet. And that makes you a douchebag, Brad."
Brad, douchebag that he is, made that voicemail public and I guess someone did get their internet popularity after all.
And the moral of the story: Internet popularity is overrated. It doesn't make you cool. It probably, actually, makes you uncool. I mean, the time you spend on getting 2,000 posts on theforce.net, you could party with your friends in the real world.
lol, that icon was just dying for a post like this!
But yes, it is overrated. I mean, if it is your thing than that is totally cool. I don't care what people choose to do in their free time but when you use it to hurt people, that is when I get pissed. Because, like, that's when it really becomes apparent that you are making up for something lacking in your own life or compensating for who you were in high school. Because really, we should've all moved beyond being cliquey by now.
My goal is the same as it was in high school. Hang just on the side enough that no one is quite sure if I'm part of any clique or not. Becuase, really, either option sucks. That's the trouble with cliques.
It's also why my icons never make any sense. Maintains my half step into internet fandom.
No idea if it actually worked in either case, but it's what I'm telling myself , today anyway.
Mostly this is in the way of an excuse for not being around much.
And yes, my philosophy is just to talk to anybody who talks to me, seek out people I have a lot in common with and try not to be rude to people who aren't rude to me.
You will never....spiralcuthamletNovember 2 2006, 05:28:10 UTC
.. ever be cool enough to be in my clique of superfriends. Sorry, you just don't qualify. it's not anything inferior about you, it's just our vast, absurd superiority to everything.
TOGIWEB <-- our inside joke acronym thing you wouldn't get.
Oh, Anna. Why do you have to try to ruin everyone's fun?
(I was banned from a Harry Potter website not once, but twice, for not fitting into someone's clique and very openly discussing it.. heh)
