somerville has started to install flashing blue lights at some intersections that only go during snow emergances. Several problems, though, 1) you have to know this 2) you have to drive through one of those intersetsions 3) sometimes they're left on, so you can't trust them.

Still, worth knowing about.

Do you have a spare video cable that is known to work? Just in case the cable is wonky. Also, have you tried plugging in a different monitor to your computer? It might be weird hibernation things with the PC itself rather than the monitor.

Basically, eliminate all other possibilities before concluding the monitor itself is broken, unless there's some way to test the monitor (I don't know any, but more clueful people read your LJ).

Try it with another computer before giving up; the problem could also be your video card, or even with the wire connecting them.

Also, does the monitor have multiple inputs? For instance, a VGA input and a DVI input? Is it possible you accidentally switched it to the other input somehow?

But if it is the monitor, odds are, you lose. Sorry. :-(

You can sign up to get phone calls and/or email about snow emergencies in somerville. Check out the "snow emergency" tag in the davis square com: http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/tag/snow+emergency

There's a working (non-flatpanel) monitor in the garage that you can try if you want to, and I can try plugging your monitor into my laptop when I get back.
