I went back to reread the prompt after I finished the story, and for me, the prompt makes the atmosphere of this fic not just more sad, but even more hopeless.

There's so much that's fantastic about this. I love the intimacy of it - it's really sort of tragic, but at the same time so humdrum and mundane. And I love the little balancing glimpse of Dom at the end - the unhappiness implicit in that confusion and disconnection.

Gorgeous writing. Beautifully structured. (I am such a ho for good understated angst.)
