I have been reading a book called Mindsets by Carol S. Dweck. The book explores the idea that there are two main ways that people approach life and that one tends to stop people from reaching their full potential. Reading Faber & Mazlish "Siblings without Rivalry" it has an entire chapter on labelling kids. They bring up the point that there is a problem if a child gets a positive label as much as a negative one because it can be a lot of a burden on them.
