constant tugging on shirt/whining/not really wanting to nurse

My little girl is 15 months old. She was teething a week or two ago but those symptoms have gone away. This week she has been so hard to deal with. She whines over and over again all day long. She doesn't want to nurse, but she wants to nurse. I don't get it. She pulls on my shirt to get to the "bow-boos" literally every two minutes and whines when ( Read more... )

I don't breastfeed, but my 15 month old is currently going through a very cuddly and needy stage as well. He's constantly pulling at my arms to pick him up or climbing all over me all day long, then gets down for a few minutes and rinse/repeat all day. For the first time ever when I went to the doctors today he cried for half an hour. I really think it's got to do with the age.

Mine did that at that age. It was infuriating and maddening and I really hated nursing while it was going on. At the time, he didn't have a sign for nurse so I taught him that and that really helped the screaming/undressing me, but since Quin already has a sign that probably won't help ( ... )

Well put! we did a lot of the same things to try to stop this, i was so frustrated some days i felt like weaning cold turkey.

I set a strict 2 hours time limit between nursing sessions unless DD hurt herself (and when you climb on the coffee table and dance around ALL THE TIME, it can happen). You feel mean doing it at first, but DD has been happier and easier to deal with since then. nutrient wise they don't need it that often...start with an hour or two and enforce it strictly. I also recommend keeping covered when not nursing...i can't even wear shirts with mild cleavage because it makes her angry and if she sees it she thinks about it more.

hang in there mama, it's hard, but it will get better!

She's letting you know she's ready to learn nursing manners? :) About 13-16 months was a very trying time for us, as I remember.

i am so glad you asked. i was sure it was normal but the past week or so has been so freaking annoying. mine figured out how to do boob gymnastics and now is constantly looking for them, trying to get them out and messing with them. i finally put my foot down a day or two ago and said, 'you either nurse or you don't,' and when she'd pop off after being offered both i'd put them away and keep them away for awhile. ftr she'll be one in a week.

i thought nursing was physically demanding enough before this. it is no small wonder to em that a lot of my friends cut the boob access off at one. i am not that discouraged, but man am i tired. who'd have thunk my chest would be the coolest toy in our house? ha ha.
