Is this what they do?

My 18-month-old has a tendency to not pay attention to where she's going and she's always tripping over things in her path -- toys, books, our limbs, even her potty. If there's a clear path, she won't walk through it, preferring instead to step on everything around it. Sometimes, it's a matter of her running, rather than taking her time, but more ( Read more... )

1. My step-daughter was like that as a toddler. In fact, at 5 she still steps on everything instead of going around or over it.

2. My 2 year old so is very particular about things.

So, I agree with everyone that it is pretty normal.

Perfectly normal. My DD is good at making the most simple path completely complicated. And she's good at getting completely underfoot -- I sometimes think I should have called her Visa because she's everywhere I want to be.

As for obsessive compulsive, my parents come to visit three or four times a year. When my dad is here, he has his seat at the dinner table. (Yeah - he's a bit OCD too, I think). Anyways, for WEEKS after he leaves, DD gets upset if anyone else sits in Grandpa Jon's chair and she always brings him his tea (from her play kitchen) and sits it on the placemat.

She's 3, btw -- so don't be surprised if this behavior doesn't go away overnight. :)

My toddler is psychotic when it comes to the way things need to go. For example, I'm not allowed to change out of sweaty/dirty/just pooped on clothes - he'll throw a fit until I put them back on, even if I let him choose what I put on next - unless I sneak away so he doesn't see it.

All cars must be put into a particular row, in a particular order, shoes go in a particular spot, etc etc.

My tot has always been exceptionally UN-clumsy, unless he's really tired, then he'll do something completely unaware and uncoordinated, like last night dancing his way off a chair (one leg slipped off, the other stayed on - his first "nut shot")

So yes, way normal.

My 16 month old boy is a maniac and has cuts and bruises everywhere. He bonks his head 10 times a day. I have no idea where all of it comes from. He is a big climber, runner. It is totally normal.

We are not big on babyproofing. We aren't big on cleaning up regulary. If he doesn't cry, we don't worry :-)

He's our second. We were more careful with our oldest :-) My oldest who throws a tantrum when my hair is wet. Or anything is not as he expects it to be.

Kids are fun, huh?

My son is about 18 months and his "toddling" is exactly like that. Last weekend he took off down my mom's concrete driveway before I could grab him, tripped, and tumbled onto his face. He had scratches all over the side of his face as a result, and looked like he'd been in a fight, poor kid. He's sustained quite a few "walking injuries" in the last few months, almost all the result of him wanting to go faster than he's actually able to go, or from trying to walk through/over instead of around.

In my experience, that's completely normal. :-)
