ATTENTION, FRIENDS WITH TATTOOS!

I am planning on using some of my Christmas money and paycheck to get my first tattoo asap. In case anyone is interested, I will be getting "fearlessness" written in Sanskrit on the top of my back, right below my neck. It has a pretty intense meaning to me, despite the fact that it might seem cliché, since I have ( Read more... )

That is a cool idea for your first one. :)

Mine didn't hurt except for two spots and those were fleshy and sensitive spots. Bring along your boy and a friend or two, make it an event. Getting ink should be a memorable experience because it will last forever.

Make sure the place is CLEAN and uses CLEAN tools. This isn't such a big deal anymore but it's always good to keep in mind. I would also make sure the person who is doing can provide a book of pictures of actual stuff they have done, look at them carefully and make sure there aren't too many fuckups. They SHOULD give you some Tattoo Goo or something like it that will help with the healing process - you might have to buy it so bring some extra cash along. Don't itch it(it will be itchy) don't wash it for a day or two or expose it to sun AT ALL. Even years later make sure you put the strongest sunblock you can find onto your ink, this will help it not to fade. The artist should give you these types of tips and maybe even give you a care pamphlet ( ... )

I've yet to figure out how to edit my comments...

Also, make sure they are using natural organic plant ink. Anything else can and will be dangerous to your skin, especially if you're sensitive.

Ohhh yes, I am definitely bringing my boy...AND another boy that I'm really close friends with. I'm willing to bring whoever wants to come that doesn't have work so it'll be a nice bringing in of the new year :) My appointment is on Saturday.

Thank you for so much of the aftercare information! The Tattoo Goo video was really fucking helpful and I bookmarked it. I think a lot of people forget that there's more to keeping your tattoo looking its best even long after it has initially healed.

Oh god, I'm already coming up with ideas for my next one. Tattoo AA, here I come!

I think I have a pretty good pain threshold...at least, I hope so. I used to before my medication because I wasn't respectful of my body and didn't care about pain or injury, but now that has sort of changed so hopefully I won't be like O SHIT SON. I'm all worried because getting my nose pierced had hurt more than I expected and I was "Jesus, how am I gonna get a tattoo if THAT hurt?"

But of course when I ended up having to get it repierced, it was no big deal and just pinched a little.

I already booked my appointment and my artist is really freaking cool. He's also the guy who does all of my close friends' tattoos and hers are gorgeous and she said he's really nice.

Holy SHIT, hep C! That's really sick and terrifying.

Thank you for all the great advice!!!

I don't have one, but a guy I know just had a fairly large one done in the same area. Pain-wise, he said that outlining was the worst of it while coloring wasn't as bad. He likened the feeling to a bad sunburn, but also said that you can't really describe it. Hmmm, oh, he said the worst part was when they went over his bone, but that's to be expected.

Good luck with the tattoo - it sounds like a really nice idea :)

Ahh, I've always been pretty good at handling sunburn. Of course, I only tend to get it right under my eyes on my cheeks...

Thank you, darling!

Pain isn't really an issue to be honest. It depends on your tolerance. I have one tattoo on my thigh and one on my lower back. I cried for my thigh one because I was all worked up and anxious and it honestly didn't really hurt that bad. I did clench my jaw for my lower back one (which everyone keeps saying how it's SOOOO painful and they cried and screamed or passed out - whatever) but it wasn't that bad. I think getting my eyebrow pierced hurt more, plus the healing process for a tattoo is way faster than for a piercing ( ... )

Thank God the healing process is fast! That's always the biggest pain in the ass/responsibility.

Holy shit, haha, you drove yourself to the hospital with a kidney stone?! GIRL, you fierce. *Needs to stop watching America's Next Top Model*

Thank you so much for the advice! It was very helpful and you helped assuage my fears. :)

Also, I got your holiday card and it was so sweet! I still have mine sitting in the envelopes waiting for stamps...Ugh. Oh well, better late than never.

It's a cool idea, but, just 'fearless' would be cool tool.

Well, it's a translation, so it kind of encompasses "courage", "fearlessness", and "fearless" all at the same time, etc.
